Role Description

This role shall provide field oversight support for the Natural Resources Management (NRM) Systemwide Program on the Defensible Space team . Senior level position capable of performing inspections, data entry, reporting, and project management. Familiarity with Maps+ and Field Maps applications.

Field oversight support tasks include performing inspections of routine vegetation control and maintenance around facilities including assessments and oversight of brushing, string trimming, pesticide applications, and tree removals near PG&E assets including substations, non-linear gas facilities, telecom sites, service centers, and fee lands associated with those facilities in the field, completing desktop reviews of assigned inspection areas, field collecting spatial data within the approved GIS platform, completing inspection reports which include a clear, concise narrative description of current road conditions and suggested or prescribed work, photos, and maps, overseeing contractors performing construction and/or maintenance work, conducting safety engagements, and reporting any safety hazards, concerns, or conditions of nonconformance.

These tasks will be assigned to the Senior Arborist by the Land Program Manager (LPM) assigned to the service territory. Senior Arborist must be knowledgeable and capable of identifying and mitigating the inherent risks associated with field work, capable of working independently with minimal oversight, be able to communicate clearly and effectively to internal and external clients, maintain a professional standard of work and behavior, and provide complete deliverables in a timely manner. Senior Arborist personnel are also responsible for ensuring that they themselves and the contractors they are overseeing are adhering to applicable PG&E Procedures and Standards.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Project setup, implementation, and management.

- Contractor shall: Develop project scope of work, coordinate with agencies, and procure pricing from vendors.

- Inspect for vegetation needs that promote the safe access, safe operations, maintenance, and fuel reduction.

- Assess, identify, map and mark trees that are dead, dying, hazardous, or operational conflicts for removal.

- Conduct required environmental review and provide professional advice for the required protection measures on site.

- Provide onsite supervision of crews performing vegetation control and property management work including, but not limited to, the supervision and oversight of project execution and Contractor safety performance.

- Provide professional guidance to crews and maintain compliance with laws, regulations, permits, and ERTCs.

- Observe and report on the following items: Crew progress, safety issues, resources used and hours worked, effectiveness of applications or treatments performed at various sites, and environmental impacts.

- Collect data of work performed by the crew and update electronic database.

- Consult with PG&E personnel to resolve any environmental, customer, or project specific issues.

- Confirm that projects have proper environmental permits or documents.

- Consult with agencies regarding permitting, required notifications, meetings, and other project specific requirements.

- Oversee projects to ensure the scope of work is complete.

- Coordinate with PCA for all pesticide applications to ensure compliance and to obtain a Pest Control Recommendation.

- Coordinate projects with vendors including job walks and identifying safety issues.

- Identify property owners and secure written permission from such property owners to perform work when requested by PG&E.

- Confirm and update all Identifications, classifications, flag and mark all watercourses, riparian areas, wet areas, springs, meadows, or other environmentally sensitive areas.

- All boundaries shall be established with paint and flagging as directed by PG&E.

- Field visits of active project construction or maintenance work.

- Reporting any safety hazards, concerns, or conditions of nonconformance associated with active project work.


Requirements


Minimum Qualifications: Senior Arborist

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, Certified Arborist with TRAQ or Utility Arborist Certification.

- ISA Certified Arborist

- TRAQ or Utility Arborist

- 10 years’ experience in Vegetation Management or related field

- Senior level position capable of performing/leading inspections, data entry, reporting, and project management.

- Individual should have strong understanding of various vegetation management practices

- Must have a strong understanding of vegetation management and basic knowledge of GIS applications.

- Reviews, accepts, coordinates and facilitates tasks given by PG&E LPM's with minimal oversight by PG&E.

- Identify trees and various vegetation type common in California and make vegetation management recommendations.

- This position is a self-starter capable of recognizing day-to-day tasks in advance and working cross functionally to accomplish them.

- Possess a valid driver’s license.

- Minimum age of 21.


Preferred Qualifications:

- Education: OSHA30, Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management


Desired Skills:

- Experience leading the support of vegetation, rodent, and property management activities

- Data entry and synthesis

- Able to operate a GPS collection device

- Proficient with Maps+ and Field Maps applications.

- Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (Look-ups, Pivot Tables, etc.)

- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task and work independently as well as a team

- Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with senior management

- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to exercise good judgement to make good business decisions

Salary Range Disclaimer:

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Pacific salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to customer contact terms, location, experience, and performance. Other rewards may include Paid Time Off, 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match, ESOP contributions, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and other region-specific benefits as eligible.


Salary Range Transparency:

For applicants residing in California, the salary for this role is $69.00
