Forestry Senior Leader

THE JOB

Westland is looking for senior leaders to join our forestry team. We are particularly looking for leaders in the following forestry fields: Operations; Planning and Development; and Silviculture.

This is an engaging and exciting opportunity to be a senior member of Westland’s forestry group and our management of multiple forest tenures. You will be an integral part of Westland’s management team and play a key role in developing staff by providing leadership and mentorship, while still being able to get your hands dirty.

You will be able to grow and diversify your career, with potential to become part of the company’s ownership and succession plan.

RESPONSIBLITIES

You will:

- Act as a subject matter expert in your field(s) of expertise.

- Develop and mentor Westland staff.

- Lead projects.

- Support clients and stakeholders.

- Grow your experience and competencies.

- Identify and develop new opportunities for Westland or our clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

You have at least 15 (preferred 20+) years’ experience in forestry in BC, including:

- Subject Matter Expertise in at least one of Operations; Planning and Development; or Silviculture. Additional experience in Log Marketing, Wildfire, Strategy and Policy, or other aspect(s) of natural resource management would also be an asset.

- Experience with forest management technologies and applications related to your area(s) of expertise.

- Working knowledge of the spectrum of forestry services within natural resources management, their interaction, and how they relate to achievement of client and company objectives.

- Education in forestry or a related field. Registration with Forest Professionals BC (RFT or RPF) is preferred but is not compulsory.

- Ability to work in a Team environment pursuing opportunities to improve systems, find efficiencies, and problem solve.

WHAT WE OFFER

The annual salary (typically $100,000 to 120,000) will be confirmed based on experience. Our forestry team works alongside our clients to manage four forest licences, two forestry licences to cut, two woodlots, a tree farm licence, and future Treaty lands. For 20+ years our services have included strategic, tactical and operational advice; research and assessments; development and permitting; operational implementation, monitoring and supervision; economic and community development; and all-round problem solving.
