The Saskatchewan Research Council is seeking a Security Advisor to join the Facilities and Security team to support both cyber and physical security, ensuring protection of SRC’s people, assets and information. This position supports proactive planning, technology oversight and integrated solutions that enable SRC to operate securely and with confidence.
- Detect, analyze, and respond to cyber and physical security incidents, leading investigations, containment, recovery and lessons learned
- Conduct holistic risk assessments across digital, physical and insider threat vectors; recommend and implement mitigation measures
- Support the development, communication and enforcement of integrated security policies aligned with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework and ISO 27001
- Oversee and optimize key security systems, including firewalls, endpoint protection, access control, surveillance and alarm platforms
- Develop and test incident response playbooks, participate in tabletop exercises and contribute to business continuity and emergency planning
- Facilitate employee training and awareness through the delivery of engaging security education programs that improve staff readiness against cyber and physical threats
- Partner with IT, Facilities, researchers and external vendors to design and implement integrated security solutions
- Track emerging threats and trends, advising leadership on integrated security strategies that protect people, assets and information
- Diploma in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Security Management or a related field; 5-7 years experience in cyber security, physical security or a related integrated security function; enterprise or public sector preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Certifications in Security+, CISSP, CPP and/or Microsoft Security Operations Analyst are considered assets- Knowledge of Windows, networking and Microsoft security tools, such as Defender, Sentinel, Purview and Entra ID
- Understanding of risk management principles and the language of risk assessment
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate incidents, identify root causes and recommend preventive strategies
- Clear communication skills for translating technical and security findings to diverse stakeholders
- High level of accuracy and thoroughness in documentation, reporting and policy application
- Ability to assess complex situations and make sound, timely decisions under pressure
- Collaborative mindset to work effectively across technical, operational and leadership teams
The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.
