Job Summary:
The Repair and Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing machinery, vehicles, tools, and infrastructure used in scrap metal recycling operations. This role ensures equipment is operating safely and efficiently to minimize downtime and extend service life.
Key Responsibilities:
•Perform preventative maintenance on balers, shears, conveyors, shredders, forklifts, loaders, and other heavy recycling equipment.
•Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
•Fabricate and weld components as needed for repairs or modifications.
•Inspect and repair diesel and gas-powered equipment, including trucks and yard vehicles.
•Maintain maintenance logs, equipment records, and service schedules.
•Coordinate with vendors and parts suppliers to obtain necessary materials.
•Assist with yard infrastructure maintenance (e.g., lighting, fencing, shop tools, welding stations).
•Conduct safety inspections and follow OSHA and company safety guidelines.
•Support equipment installations, upgrades, and relocations.
•Respond to emergency breakdowns and after-hours service calls as needed.
Qualifications:
•High school diploma or GED; technical certification or vocational training preferred.
•3+ years of experience in mechanical or industrial equipment repair.
•Strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical circuits, welding, and diesel engines.
•Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
•Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding/fabrication tools.
•Forklift and heavy equipment operation experience is a plus.
•Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:
•Outdoor and indoor work in a scrap yard environment with exposure to dust, noise, weather, and heavy machinery.
•Physical demands include standing, bending, lifting (up to 75 lbs), climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
•Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
