Located in Marietta, PA, Hiltz Propane Systems is family-owned and operated, comprised of a dedicated crew with propane-related professionals. Our crew brings a one-of-a-kind experience to the areas of LPG system design, engineering, plant connection, fitting and maintenance services.
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs and policies to ensure a safe work environment across all business units, including construction sites, manufacturing facilities, and transportation operations. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations—particularly those related to the propane industry—and fosters a strong safety culture throughout the organization. The Safety Manager leads training, inspections, incident investigations, and risk mitigation efforts.
- Develop and maintain company-wide safety policies, procedures, and standards tailored to construction, manufacturing, and transportation services in the propane industry.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable safety regulations.
- Collaborate with leadership to integrate safety into operational processes.
- Plan and conduct safety training for all employees, including new hire orientation, job-specific safety procedures, and annual refresher training.
- Maintain training records and ensure certifications (e.g., HAZMAT, CDL, forklift, confined space) are current.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of job sites, manufacturing facilities, and fleet operations.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead internal audits and assist in regulatory inspections or third-party audits.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Maintain incident records and generate reports for management review.
- Lead the implementation of corrective and preventative measures.
- Develop risk assessments and safety plans for high-hazard operations including propane handling, confined space entry, heavy equipment use, and DOT-regulated transport.
- Monitor and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety systems.
- Maintain and submit required safety reports and documentation to regulatory agencies.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, employee involvement, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a resource and coach to supervisors and employees on safety-related matters.
- Organize and lead safety committees or toolbox meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in safety management, preferably in the propane, construction, manufacturing, or transportation sectors.- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and propane industry regulations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel to multiple sites and work in varying environments (field, plant, office).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHST, or other relevant safety certification.
- Experience with propane gas operations and HAZMAT transportation compliance.
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. However, the positions will require work during nonstandard hours when the need arises to respond to incidents or audits. Travel will be required for training purposes and safety inspections as needed. Approximately 20%.
Work is regularly performed in a combination of office, shop and field environments and is occasionally exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, moving mechanical parts and vibration and noise. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
