POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety Manager is responsible for the comprehensive loss control program involving all aspects of industrial safety, accident and claims investigation, negotiation, and physical security. Manage facility access control, associated budgets, and contracts related to these areas.

This position has supervisory responsibilities over other employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement methods of identifying hazards from a safety and security aspect. Evaluate the potential employee and economic impacts through a detailed analysis.
- Conduct investigation of accidents and security incidents including preparation of appropriate documentation of injuries, property damage, and public liability. Determine the causes of all such incidents and develop solutions to prevent or minimize the frequency of recurrence.
- Instruct employees in proper safety and security procedures. Establish methods to demonstrate the relationship and importance of safety and security to overall operations.
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct job-specific safety orientation sessions for all employees.
- Develop and present employee safety, security and loss control awareness programs to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
- Follow established business principles, practices, and financial controls to achieve fiscal responsibility.
- Perform related work as required.

Under the general direction of the Site Manager, the Safety Manager is responsible for the following:
- Leading/managing all aspects of the mine’s Health and Safety Programs
- Managing MSHA compliance
- Training
- Inspections
- Contesting citations
- Dust sampling programs
- Coal dust
- Silica
- Hearing conservation
- Sampling
- Audiometric testing
- Reporting
- Accidents – 7000-1
- Employment and production – 7000-2
- Contractor management – ISN
- Coordinate and assist on insurance audits
- Accident investigations and reporting
- Attending/conducting crew safety meetings
- Workplace inspections
- Maintain gas monitoring equipment - iNet
- Oversight of Mine Rescue Team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Risk Management or equivalent experience in the Mining Health & Safety field.
Minimum 10 years of related work experience.
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Experience in mining methods and equipment a must. Basic computer knowledge required. Statistical, analytical and evaluative skills, which demonstrate the ability to analyze, interpret and effectively communicate, mine safety information, policies and regulations. Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills. Good knowledge of the MSHA regulations (30 CFR Parts 47, 48, 50, 62, 71 and 77). The ability to interact and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of employees and State and Federal mine safety representatives. Certifications or the ability to become certified in:
- MSHA dust certification – Sampling
- MSHA Instructor Surface – IS
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
