Safety Manager
Easton Utilities is currently seeking to fill the position of Safety Manager. We are looking for a candidate with strong expertise in safety and utilities who demonstrates our core values of Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence.
HIRING RANGE: Annual Salary of $121,914.00 or higher depending upon experience and credentials.
JOB OBJECTIVE: The Safety Manager serves as an ambassador and key leader responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and continuous advancement of comprehensive safety and health programs across the organization’s diverse utility operations. These include electric power distribution, substations, generation facilities, natural gas systems, water and wastewater treatment, and telecommunications systems.
- 10+ years of experience in utility or industrial safety management (preferably in a multi-disciplined utility environment).
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards (1910 & 1926), MOSH, EPA, DOT, NESC, NFPA 70E, ANSI, and other utility-related safety regulations.
- Experience conducting training, audits, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Bachelor’s degree - Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, handle, reach, feel, talk or hear.
- Frequently required to climb stairs, ladders, balance, kneel, or crouch.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to enter confined spaces such as vaults and tanks.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Create, revise, and enforce comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to each utility sector (e.g., natural gas, electric, water, wastewater, communications).
- Provide direct leadership, guidance, and development to safety personnel. Foster a cohesive, knowledgeable, safety team aligned with the company’s safety goals.
- Partners with HR on safety-related matters including new hire onboarding, training compliance, workers’ compensation, return-to-work programs, workplace investigations, and employee health and wellness initiatives.
- Ensure all operations comply with OSHA, MOSH, DOT, EPA, NESC, NFPA, and other relevant regulatory standards. Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting utility safety practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits, site inspections, and hazard assessments for field crews, facilities, and plants (including substations, generation facilities, and water/wastewater treatment plants).
- Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and unsafe practices. Compile reports, identify root causes, and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, including onboarding, task-specific training, and ongoing compliance education.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including natural disaster preparedness, utility-specific emergencies (e.g., gas leaks, electrical faults), and coordination with first responders.
- Oversee safety practices of contractors and vendors to ensure they meet company and regulatory standards.
- Maintain safety and training records, track safety metrics, and prepare monthly/annual reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Engage with employees and leadership to continuously improve safety culture across all departments and locations.
- Possess a deep understanding of complex safety challenges and regulatory requirements unique to each utility sector.
- Collaborate with operational leadership, field personnel, contractors, and regulatory bodies to cultivate a proactive safety culture focused on:
