Job Description: Roustabout Hand (Oil & Gas Industry)
The Roustabout Hand provides general labor and field support for oil and gas operations. This role is responsible for assisting with site maintenance, equipment handling, and daily operational tasks under the direction of a Roustabout Crew Leader or Field Supervisor. The position is essential for maintaining safe, efficient, and productive work sites in drilling, production, and facility construction environments.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as lifting, carrying, digging, material handling, and site cleanup.
- Assist with construction and maintenance of well sites, tank batteries, flowlines, and other surface equipment.
- Support rig-up and rig-down of equipment at well sites or workover locations.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Must be able to weld and fabricate proficiently, operate mini excavators, fuse pipe, thread pipe and other tasks as required.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and basic oilfield equipment as trained.
- Assist with pipe handling, equipment positioning, and the setup of job-related tools.
- Perform basic equipment checks and report any mechanical issues to supervisors.
- Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and company/industry guidelines (OSHA, HSE, environmental procedures, etc.).
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment problems promptly.
- Work as part of a roustabout crew under direct instruction from Crew Leaders or Supervisors.
- Communicate job needs, potential hazards, and progress updates clearly.
- Assist coworkers to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous oilfield, construction, or industrial labor experience is beneficial but not required; entry-level candidates often considered.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL is an asset.
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor in all weather conditions.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Understanding of oilfield safety practices or willingness to complete required training (H2S, First Aid/CPR, etc.).
- Field-based work at drilling rigs, production sites, pipeline ROWs, and facility construction locations.
- Exposure to loud machinery, rough terrain, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
- May require long hours, rotation schedules, overtime, and travel to remote locations.
- Ability to lift 50–100 lbs routinely.
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in harsh or variable weather.
