Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. is a leading asphalt supplier and marketer in the Western US. With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, and Arizona, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer-modified asphalt, and asphalt emulsions to the road maintenance and construction industry. IAS is looking for an energized and flexible self-starter to fill a full-time opening for Quality Assurance Operator 1 at our Billings, MT facility.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Quality Assurance Operator 1 is responsible for testing and certifying the quality of raw materials and finished products through product sampling and batch testing support. Key duties include loading and unloading asphalt trucks and rail cars, calculating load gallons, operating forklifts, and performing basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on loading/unloading equipment. The role also involves learning the plant’s color code system, gaining familiarity with the plant layout, and developing a solid understanding of the PMA and emulsion production processes.
- Test and certify the quality of raw materials and finished products.
- Product sampling and testing; operation support for product batch testing.
- Ability to calculate load gallons.
- Top and bottom load/unload asphalt trucks.
- Load/unload rail cars.
- Raw materials and product sampling.
- Forklift operation.
- Basic (PM) preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of loading/unloading.
- Learn the plant color code or ID system for the values, lines, pumps, and tanks.
- Obtain general knowledge of products and plant layout.
- This position will learn the PMA and emulsion production process.
- Must be First Aid certified within 90 days of hire
- The ability to perform basic arithmetic operations accurately (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages)

- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous work experience, especially in the areas of manufacturing or production. We are willing to train candidates who are eager to learn and want to launch a career with Idaho Asphalt Supply.
- Must be able to lift, carry, pull, and/or push or otherwise move 25/50/80 pounds daily/frequently.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and climb daily/frequently.
- Must be able to walk on, or work on an open grated catwalk 50 feet high.
- Must be able to carry a 3” x 20’ rubber asphalt hose a distance of 120’ unassisted
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders daily/frequently to a height of 50 feet.
- Must be able to work in a crouched position beneath transport trailers or rails cars for a minimum of 20 minutes at a time for up to 8 hours per day.
- Must be able to work in enclosed or confined spaces (tanks).
- Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach/work overhead occasionally.
- Must be able to sit, with keyboard use/repetitive hand motion occasionally.
- Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather and safely perform heavy physical labor, work indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment, and work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
