- This role will be hybrid between fieldwork and at our St. Paul/Roseville office, with ability to work remotely.
We are looking for a Quality Assurance Inspector to join our growing Decarbonization team within our Residential Department! This role will report to the Quality Assurance Manager.
The Decarbonization team is responsible for implementing pilot programs that work towards decarbonizing and electrifying our residential building stock. As a Quality Assurance Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting quality assurance inspections for pilot/partnering programs, utility rebate programs, and to maintain the vetted insulation contractor network, but has a heavy focus on training and education as it relates to quality assurance. This position provides the opportunity to work directly with other CEE employees and insulation contractors to ensure that our high standards are met while improving staff and contractor building science knowledge.

What You’ll Do
Fieldwork – estimated 50% of time
- Perform quality assurance site inspections for insulation and mechanical upgrades with blower door tests, IR imaging, combustion safety diagnostics, and visual inspections
- Perform pre and post audits for the Metropolitan Airport Commission (MAC) Program and other program or grant audits, or diagnostic needs, as assigned
- Accurately enter all required inspection information into program software or forms
- Communicate with contractors and customers or participants about issues and/or change orders
- Ensure customer or participant education and customer service needs are being met
- Collaborate with Senior Quality Assurance Inspector and Quality Assurance Manager to develop inspection protocol and training for Senior Energy Auditors
- Review and revise insulation quotes written by the Home Energy Squad, communicate accordingly with the Customer Engagement Team
- Proctor and administer the BPI Building Science Principles, Building Analyst Technician and Building Analyst Professional exams, including any prep curriculum and coordination with the candidates and the Field Operations Manager
- Attend auditor trainer meetings and other meetings as necessary to ensure Home Energy Squad training curriculum is aligned with partnering contractor and the Decarbonization department’s needs and goals
- Maintain excellent working knowledge of CEEtrack and related software programs
- Document and report any failed inspections and write-up contractor callbacks, coordinate follow-ups with the Quality Assurance Manager
- Other duties as assigned
- Effective communication and customer service skills via phone, e-mail, or in-person
- Ability to independently organize responsibilities, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and have a strong attention to detail
- Ability to routinely use building science diagnostic equipment such as blower doors, duct blasters, combustion analyzers, infrared cameras, and hand tools
- Demonstrated ability to perform quality assurance inspections and energy audits
- Strong ability and ample experience creating work orders and reviewing work orders
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and extensive building science knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably communicate building science concepts and train others
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Be willing to drive personal vehicle to and from inspections or audits, which may include greater Minnesota
- Be able to lift 40 pounds and work in tight spaces such as attics and crawl spaces
- Be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions
- Two-year technical degree or certificate or equivalent experience required
- Three (3) years of combined experience performing energy audits or quality assurance inspections using diagnostic equipment
- Possess the following Building Performance Institute (BPI) certifications or ability to work with CEE to obtain certifications:
Building Analyst or Building Analyst Professional
Field and Online Proctor
Quality Control Inspector
- Dependent on qualifications and experience, we expect the pay range upon hire for this position will be $28.50-30/hr.
