About the Role
This role plays a vital part in ensuring the financial success of our construction projects by supporting budget management, project billing, and contract compliance. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Project Cost Accountant collaborates closely with Project Managers and clients to maintain accurate, timely financial records and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
•Maintain accurate financial records for active projects, including setup, tracking, and close-out.
•Create and manage project accounts, including contracts and change orders, in Sage 100 Contractor and internal systems.
•Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure financial and contractual accuracy throughout project lifecycles.
•Monitor budgets, forecasts, actual costs, and commitments; investigate and report project variances.
•Prepare monthly Over/Under Billing reports for CFO review.
•Generate and manage all project-related invoicing; submit via Sage and customer billing systems.
•Liaise with clients to ensure timely invoice approval and payments.
•Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.
•Support cash forecasting by predicting costs and labor requirements for upcoming projects.
•Maintain subcontractor records, insurance certifications, and compliance documentation.
•Manage OCIP/ROCIP systems and prevailing wage payroll reporting as needed.
•Respond to ad hoc reporting requests from CFO and Project Managers.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
•1–2 years of relevant accounting experience with project or contract exposure.
•Familiarity with project billing and cost tracking.
•Proficient in Sage 100 Contractor (strongly preferred) and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based but may also involve occasional site visits. While performing the duties of the job, the employee must be able to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer equipment, reach, kneel, climb, talk, and hear. The ability to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds occasionally is required. Specific vision abilities required for the role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Some tasks may involve exposure to moderate noise levels from machinery at jobsites. Travel between job sites and the Brekhus office may be required. All employees who drive as part of their role must hold a valid driver’s license and provide proof of valid insurance. The position may also require extended hours to meet client needs.
