Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team based in the Phoenix AZ area. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and analyzing cost records and reports, ensuring accurate product costing, and supporting the organization’s financial planning and inventory control functions. This role is critical to maintaining cost accuracy and inventory integrity in a highly regulated, quality-focused manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
•Analyze manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead; identify cost-saving opportunities
•Maintain and update standard costs of manufactured goods; investigate and explain variances to standards
•Collaborate with operations and engineering to evaluate BOMs (Bills of Materials), routings, and cost drivers
•Perform monthly inventory valuation and reconcile inventory accounts to the general ledger
•Lead analysis of slow-moving, excess, and obsolete inventory; prepare and maintain reserves for obsolescence in compliance with internal policies and GAAP
•Support and participate in physical inventory counts and cycle count programs
•Prepare detailed cost and margin analysis reports to support pricing strategies and financial forecasting
•Assist in developing and monitoring key inventory KPIs and cost control initiatives
•Provide support during internal and external audits, particularly around inventory and costing
•Work with ERP systems to maintain cost and inventory modules
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
•3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
•Expertise in standard costing, cost variance analysis, and inventory management
•Strong proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
•Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
•Prolonged periods are sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
