Position Overview:
Hastings Utilities Contracting Ltd. seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Project Coordinator / Estimator to support and lead key aspects of our utility construction projects. This hybrid role combines project coordination responsibilities with estimating duties, providing an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual with a strong understanding of project delivery and cost estimation.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination
•Assist project teams with estimates, scheduling, procurement, and change orders
•Prepare and maintain project documentation, including scope changes, progress reports, and billing
•Coordinate project requirements such as permits, locates, and inspections
•Track client deliverables and ensure timely submissions
•Maintain electronic filing systems and organize project documents
•Build productive internal and external relationships
•Support material and equipment purchasing for secured projects
Estimating
•Prepare electrical or civil work take-offs and cost estimates for utility construction projects
•Analyze tenders, recommend awards, and assist in contract negotiations
•Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and technical specifications
•Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, clients, engineers, and architects for pricing and tendering
•Assist with pre-qualification submissions and tender hand-off meetings
•Conduct cost analysis on project changes and provide recommendations
•Establish and maintain cost monitoring and reporting procedures
Qualifications & Experience:
•Post-secondary education in Project Management, Engineering, Construction, or a related field
•2+ years of Project Coordination/Management experience
•1+ years of experience preferred in utility construction estimating (civil/electrical preferred)
•Experience in overhead/underground high voltage and streetlighting maintenance is an asset
•Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project); MS Project experience is an asset
•Familiarity with construction tendering and procurement processes
•Relationships with utility companies are considered a strong asset
•Strong verbal communication skills and comfortable with phone-based interactions.
•Must possess a valid minimum G2 Class driver’s license, as occasional site visits are required
Skills & Competencies:
•Fluency in English (both written and verbal) is required.
