JOB SUMMARY: The Project Estimator is responsible for developing detailed and accurate cost estimates for fabrication and machining projects. This role involves reviewing customer drawings and specifications, determining material and labor requirements, coordinating with vendors, and supporting the sales and project management teams by providing pricing and technical input.
Key Responsibilities:
•Review customer RFQs, drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements.
•Develop detailed material take-offs and labor estimates for fabrication and machining projects.
•Obtain vendor quotes for raw materials, subcontracted services, and specialty components.
•Analyze production processes to estimate setup times, run times, and required tooling.
•Prepare and submit formal quotation packages in line with company standards.
•Coordinate with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to validate estimates.
•Track and update estimate information based on completed project feedback.
•Maintain estimating databases and cost records for accuracy and efficiency.
•Communicate with clients during the quotation phase to clarify scope, answer technical questions, and refine project details as needed.
•Manage multiple estimate requests simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Continuous Improvement
•Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and certification programs to enhance job-related skills and knowledge, as required.
•Suggest improvements to the operations to increase productivity and quality.
•Perform all other duties as assigned or required to support the team's goals and maintain efficient office operations
Physical Requirements:
•Prolonged sitting with occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 20 pounds).
•Frequent use of hands for typing and handling documents; clear vision for reading and computer work (with or without corrective lenses).
•Effective verbal communication and the ability to navigate the office environment, including reaching, bending, or climbing small steps if needed.
Qualifications:
•2–4 years of experience estimating projects in a fabrication and/or machine shop environment.
•Strong knowledge of machining practices (CNC and manual) and metal fabrication processes (welding, forming, cutting).
•Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
•Familiarity with shop operations, materials (carbon, stainless, aluminum, specialty metals), and manufacturing techniques.
•Proficient with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and estimating software or ERP systems.
•Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
