Ion Art, Inc. is looking for a full-time designer to join our team. We are a 37-year-old design and build company that specializes in custom fabrication, decor, signage (electrical, environmental, and ADA), large-scale sculptures, neon bending, and art. As a one-stop-shop, we have the capability to R/D, design, fabricate, manage, and install our projects in-house, as well as develop and materialize ideas for the top architecture and design agencies across the country.
Our ideal candidate has 2-3 years of experience in industrial design, 3-D rendering, environmental graphic design, or relevant design and build work experience. A four year accredited design degree is preferred.
JOB OVERVIEW
As an Ion Art Designer, you are responsible for rapidly developing projects from concept through ideation and client development, to a final product with accurate and detail-oriented work orders. Through this process, you are responsible for communicating with team members to efficiently meet and exceed the expectations of clients and management. Designers are expected to be passionate for creative excellence, exploring unique problem-solving ideas, and producing quality work with an acute attention to detail.
With that, we are also artists, thinkers, musicians, and explorers who embrace an open culture and strive to help each other grow. We encourage our colleagues to showcase personal art and bring their unique individualism to the company. We culminate every year with a curated annual neon exhibition to showcase our love for the medium called The Surreal Ion Art.
REQUIREMENTS
•Deep understanding of vector software including CorelDraw and Adobe suite
•3D software capabilities (Rhino3D, Fusion360, SketchUp, etc.)
•Ability to read and understand architectural plans and schematic shop drawings
•Basic knowledge of fundamental fabrication processes and limitations
•Professionalism while collaborating with clients and co-workers
•Organizational skills to be accountable and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
•Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple open jobs
•Cheerful and positive attitude
•High-character individual who carries themselves as an ambassador of Ion Art
•Ability to respectfully absorb critiques and feedback from management and clients

RESPONSIBILITIES
•Directly interact and communicate with clients to understand scope and demands of upcoming projects
•Download necessary information (budget, design fee, survey info, etc.) from surveyor or project manager to begin work
•Participate in collaborative idea sessions and team-building activities
•Conceptualize and develop multiple design solutions which meet the strategic, design, functional, and budgetary criteria for a variety of project types
•Work through design development based on requirements and client feedback to ensure that the project goals are reflected in the design revisions
•Develop designs and structures with a focus on materials and finish with the intent of having a document ready for construction and final bidding
•Compose a beautiful and compelling design presentation that clearly articulates the project with accurate call-outs and dimensions in scale
•Create detailed work orders that act as instruction manuals for in-house fabricators
•Follow company protocols on internal communications including email, file storage, work order checklists, and inter-team reviews
•Maintain design management and time tracking spreadsheets to ensure projects hit deadlines
•A thorough understanding of design and fabrication processes as they relate to varying types of projects, including but not limited to metalwork, woodwork, CNC-machining, neon, large format printing, painting, and installation
•Find ways to improve personal and company efficiencies through continued learning of software, fabrication, processes, and new and upcoming materials/techniques
•Maintain accountability for your project as it moves through the shop to ensure quality control and final design intent
•When applicable, research required zoning limitation per local jurisdiction and other state/federal requirements such as Fire Code requirements and ADA compliance
