Develops, plans, coordinates and implements process improvement projects. Projects are related to the improvement of quality, manufacturing processes, quality/process operating systems and continuous improvement, supporting our goal of Quest for Zero. Exhibits and supports the development of a culture that identifies Safe, Quality Production as #1 Goal.
1. Develops, plans, leads and implements improvement activities for quality and manufacturing processes in assigned manufacturing area/areas.
2. Coaches in how to effectively support the Lean/Six Sigma effort to improve value streams or processes in our Quest for Zero.
3. Leads major projects involving capital improvement, process improvement, and new products.
4. Designs conductors and develops processes to meet customer requirements.
5. Develops production support personnel and provides technical and troubleshooting support for production associates.
Describe any specialized knowledge or experience that is required on a regular basis to perform the essential functions of the job. Include any professional certifications or degrees that are required.
· Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering, Metallurgy or, Materials Science discipline; additional certifications or licensure appropriate to the job may be required.
· In lieu of a B.S degree, eight years’ experience in an area relevant to the assignment, including project management experience. Knowledge of site processes, equipment and infrastructure.
· Knowledge of Six Sigma principles; principles and practices of engineering; project management techniques and practices; and budget preparation, monitoring and administration.
· Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
· Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances, statutes, regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
· Skill n analyzing information of considerable difficulty and drawing valid conclusions; evaluating and implementing new methods and techniques for operational improvement; research and gathering information related to vendors, contractors, equipment and supplies; managing large/complex projects; and negotiating and administering contracts.
· Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
· Skill in motivating, communicating with and instructing/training others, using both technical and non-technical language to explain complex subjects and processes.
· Skill in oral communications for persuasive, training and technical purposes and in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with other employees and the public.
Describe the physical demands and work environment that are representative of what an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
· Work is performed in a manufacturing plant with exposure to loud noise. Work may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosions, fumes or airborne particles.
· Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, reach, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
· May occasionally be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.
· Required to wear personal protective equipment on a regular basis: hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear. The incumbent will be required to wear the following PPE as needed: respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing (rain suit, etc.), gloves, and other PPE as determined to protect the individual.
