About This Job

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager, Probabilistic Risk Assessment, this role is considered a senior-level engineer in the area of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and/or severe accident analysis experienced in performing PRA analyses in accordance with the appropriate industry standards and guidance, authoring and reviewing PRA-related documents, and providing results and insights to support the advancement of the NuScale design.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations, with an emphasis on new and advanced designs.
Develop logic models and perform risk calculations using industry-standard risk assessment methods and simulation tools (e.g., SAPHIRE, RELAP, MELCOR) without supervision.
Prepare, check, and review plant-specific engineering reports, calculations, system descriptions, and probabilistic risk assessments without supervision, such as data analyses (should be familiar with probabilistic models and Bayesian techniques), system modeling using fault trees and sequence modeling using event trees, external hazards (e.g., seismic, fire).
Prepare, check, and review risk-informed applications (e.g., Maintenance Rule).
Interpret scope and project requirements to develop design alternatives when required.
Develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and innovation.
Plan, organize, and perform innovative and complex engineering assignments on a team dedicated to the development of an engineering project; interpret scope and requirements of projects; develop alternatives.
Technical development of licensing basis reports, the safety analysis report, and other licensing documentation; participate in licensing interactions including interface with the government regulator in areas of technical responsibility.
Effectively communicate with other technical and nontechnical disciplines, customers, and regulators; should understand the uses and limitations of CDF, LRF, and LERF as risk metrics and impacts on risk significance.
Work with industry teams to advance PRA standards and risk-informed applications.
Interacts with coworkers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
Mentor and train other engineers or interns in sound approaches and standards for solving problems in technical areas of expertise.
Acquires, maintains, and develops training qualifications.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Quality Assurance: Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.


Minimum Skills, Qualifications And Abilities

Education : A minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or physical science from a four-year accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree in engineering is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of full-time, progressively responsible experience in probabilistic risk assessment and/or severe accident analysis is required, preferably on commercial nuclear power plants , is required . Must be able to demonstrate in-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories. Must have strong technical writing skills and showcase strong communication with computer, presentation and interpersonal. Exceptional organization skills and abilities to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is also required.
Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay And Benefits

The target pay range for this position is $127,104 - $153,401 annually.The full pay range is $113,955 - $178,237.

At NuScale, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, full-time working experience, education and training, equity within the department.
