Purpose
The goal of the Senior Risk Engineer is to lead the development and enhancement of risk assessment methodologies. This includes developing a clear understanding of client needs, formulating and documenting the risk approach, and collaborating with team members to deliver clear, data-driven risk assessment findings and actionable recommendations to external clients. A key focus of the role is to drive continuous improvement in the overall risk assessment.
Responsibilities
•Prepare comprehensive risk reports and collaborate across departments to ensure smooth execution of risk projects.
•Present and interpret risk assessment results to clients, highlighting key drivers, underlying factors, and recommended actions for risk mitigation.
•Engage regularly with clients to define the risk approach, review data requirements, assess data quality, and explain its impact on risk outcomes. Support clients through the risk approach set-up
•Develop and implement risk algorithms within the software platform. Perform the risk algorithm and perform quality control on the output.
•Serve as the technical lead for external clients, guiding them through complex risk processes and ensuring alignment with best practices.
•Identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement in client risk assessments. Communicate findings and contribute to the development of proposals for recommended solutions.
•Support the ongoing enhancement and innovation of internal risk methodologies and tools.
•Participate in industry events and conferences; contribute to the development of white papers and other thought leadership materials.
•Stay current with relevant regulatory requirements and emerging trends in risk engineering and risk management
Experience
•A minimum of 7 years of experience in a technical role, with at least 5 years of experience in pipeline risk assessment is required.
•Advanced critical thinking abilities are required to perform effective risk assessments.
•Excellent technical writing skills to communicate risk assessment process and to clearly articulate risk assessment result.
•A solid understanding of current engineering principles and trends in pipeline integrity management.
Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related education is required
•A Master's degree in Engineering or a related education is preferred
•A P.Eng or PE designation is preferred
Software Skills
•Intermediate knowledge of database management (e.g., SQL)
•Intermediate FME experience (would be an asset)
•Advanced knowledge of Python
•Advanced knowledge of Quantitative (probabilistic) risk and reliability assessment of pipelines
•Advanced knowledge of probabilistic (Bayesian) data analysis, decision making under uncertainty, and machine learning
•Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
