We are seeking a Principal Support Engineer to develop a new BESS Optimization program within Strata to support our existing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), our new BESS projects in construction and those coming soon from our 10GWhr pipeline. The initial focus being on defining and documenting an approach to advanced system troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair strategies for large BESS projects spanning multiple OEM technologies. The scope of the role is intended to grow to include development and execution of Life-cycle Optimization strategies integrating operations data, new advanced analytics tools (Anomaly Detection to AI/ML), reliability data and cutting-edge software. This role acts as a critical liaison between OEM Engineering, Field Services, and Asset Management, ensuring our systems remain reliable, serviceable and financially optimized throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge of power systems, inverters, or energy storage, and enjoys solving complex technical issues in the field and remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
•Lead advanced troubleshooting efforts for BESS field issues and coordinate cross-functional teams to identify root causes.
•Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for field repair strategies and technical escalations.
•Develop repair procedures, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation to support field technicians.
•Work closely with Strata Software Engineering, OEM Engineering, Performance Analytics, Asset Management, and Field Services to define and develop new tools and analytical insights to drive improved performance.
•Collaborate with Service and Support teams to train internal staff and third-party partners on troubleshooting and repair best practices.
•Act as a technical liaison during critical customer support events and site escalations.
Provide input into strategic optimization roadmap planning based on service trends and reparability feedback.
Qualifications:
Required:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
•5+ years of experience in technical product management, field service engineering, or advanced support roles related to energy systems or industrial equipment.
•Strong knowledge of BESS components including inverters, PCS, batteries, BMS, and SCADA systems.
•Proven experience performing root cause analysis and hands-on troubleshooting of complex electromechanical systems.
•Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
•Willingness to travel (up to 10%) to support critical field issues.
Preferred:
•Master’s degree in Engineering or Business.
•Familiarity with safety and compliance requirements in the energy industry.
•Experience working with remote diagnostics platforms and IoT analytics tools.
•Six Sigma, Lean, or other quality/process certifications.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to travel to remote customer or field locations, including utility-scale energy storage sites.
•May require work in outdoor or industrial environments, including exposure to various weather conditions and elevated noise levels.
•Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and safely work around high-voltage equipment with appropriate PPE.
•Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or working at a computer may be required.
