About This Job


Primary purpose:

Responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of all natural gas liquid processing plants or facilities with significant complexity above typical maintenance operations as determined by the Department. Primary responsibilities also include the installation, operation and maintenance of all gas/liquid pipeline, pump and compression related facilities. A Plant Operator at this level is expected to be able to work alone safely and accomplish routine “covered tasks” with oversight from a qualified employee.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

Operate compressors, engines, auxiliary units, turbines, motors, cooling equipment, pumps, seals, valves and related equipment.
Monitor and control process variables, such as pressure, temperature and flow rates to efficiently achieve desired operating results.
Start, stop and operate engines/pumps and other equipment to maintain designated operating parameters.
Ensure the cost effective and efficient performance of all gas and liquid processing units and associated equipment.
Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company employees and the general public.
Monitor quality of product to ensure meeting specifications and takes appropriate actions when out of specification product is identified.
Monitor or directly transfer product to above or below ground storage and through the pipeline system.
Communicate with company control centers, business groups and other operating groups as necessary.
Communicate with shippers concerning product movement.
Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed.
Oversee the construction, maintenance and/or security activities performed by third parties.
Identify report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenants and public officials/emergency officials.
Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements.
Be available to work a rotating shift.
Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork.
Actively participate in safety and security program and initiatives.
Participate in the development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes and work plans.
Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself.
Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.

Minimum requirements:


Education:

High School diploma or equivalent


Experience/Specific Knowledge:

Progression from a Level 1 to a Level 2 will require at least six months to one year at Level 1, equivalent skills and experience, demonstration of safe work practices and procedures, completion of any site-specific technical training (i.e. TPC courses, locally developed training programs, etc.), qualifications under the PHMSA OQ rule, and review of the appropriate O&M Procedures.
Knowledge of compressor or pump station, gathering field and processing plant operations.
Knowledge of gas and liquid processing theories and fundamentals.
Experience analyzing, adjusting and making minor repairs on compressor engines, pumps and other associated equipment.
Knowledge of operating costs associated with the equipment in area of responsibility.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs and other diagrams.
Knowledge of Company policies, procedures and practices as well as regulatory and tariff requirements.
Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high/low pressure systems.
Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.


Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Strong mechanical aptitude on related equipment.
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
Good verbal and written communications skills.
Strong customer focus and attention to detail.
Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

The employee is occasionally required to walk and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


Working Conditions:

Must respond to, and address, callouts and emergencies after regular business hours.
Frequent travel, sometimes overnight, may be required.
Occasional overtime may be required.
Living environs will be relative to work location.
May be required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
Associate’s Degree in a related field.
