Northland is powered by our people.The North Battleford Generating Station, situated 135 km northwest of Saskatoon, is a 260MW Natural Gas Combined-Cycle power generation facility. Its infrastructure includes a General Electric 7FA.04 gas turbine with 2.6 DLN equipment and an Alstom steam turbine and an air-cooled condenser. Functioning as a base load power provider, the station has a solid contract with the SPC, guaranteeing its operation until 2033.
The Plant Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of Operations and Maintenance at NBEC. Aligning with Northland Power Values, you will lead by example and set objectives to ensure a secure work environment, consistent and reliable plant operations, and a skilled and engaged workforce while fostering positive employee relationships, financial excellence, and adherence to stringent environmental and regulatory mandates.
Travel to and work at other sites will be required from time to time.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and support an organizational culture that encourages and rewards employee involvement, innovative thinking, adaptation to change, responsible risk taking, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure that entire plant operates within corporate goals of safety, environmental and regulatory compliance.
- Formulate and manage financial forecasting in accordance with budgetary and capital expense constraints.
- Coordinate O&M Managers in the performance of plant outages, capital projects and daily operation. Investigate and implement profit improvement projects.
- Coordinate the plant’s Safety, Operations, NERC Compliance, Maintenance, Administrative, Training, and Environmental programs to assure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the plants.
- Maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity in all dealings with or on behalf of company at all levels inside and outside the organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Operations.

- A Financial Steward: You demonstrate proficiency in financial forecasting and management, aligning plant operations with budgetary constraints and effectively managing capital expenses. Your financial acumen ensures optimal resource allocation and budget adherence.
- Collaborative: You are a natural relationship builder and are comfortable working and engaging with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. You can navigate a matrixed organization and build consensus across multiple organizational levels.
- A Strong Communicator: You excel in articulating ideas and messages clearly and effectively, ensuring seamless understanding among team members and stakeholders. Your adept communication skills contribute to a cohesive work environment, promoting transparency, and efficient problem-solving.
- Post Secondary education certificate or diploma relevant to Power Plant operations or maintenance, Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline would be an asset.
- 10+ years of work experience in the power generation field or a closely related technical field.- Extensive supervisory experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams is required (i.e., Plant Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, Chief Engineer, Maintenance Manager, O&M Supervisor).
- Extensive knowledge and experience of operation and maintenance of combined cycle natural gas-powered plant is a distinct advantage.
- Experience in contract management and daily interactions and with large equipment suppliers such as GE or Alstom is desired
- Experience in managing operations or maintenance of control systems such as PLCs, GE Mark VI e+ and BOP DCS is required.- Proven record of successfully managing relationships with energy off-takers, gas suppliers, third party vendors and other stakeholders.
- Experience with Maximo (enterprise asset management system)
