POSITION OVERVIEW
The Oxygen Plant Operator will perform all necessary tasks required to support the care and maintenance of the Hayden Smelter. The Oxygen Plant Operator must have the skills and ability to perform tasks associated with the plant compressed air system operation and support, plant, cooling and potable water system analysis and repairs, as well as operation and rotation of all equipment in care and maintenance status.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Inspect, cycle and perform preventative maintenance on Generators.
•Operate mobile equipment to maintenance compliance with the Consent Decree including but not limited to the operation of street sweepers, water trucks and forklifts.
•Safely energize and deenergize 480-volt electrical breakers.
•Operate and perform preventative maintenance services on the compressed air systems, high pressure systems and plant air systems.
•Operate and maintain water systems including, soft water, cooling water, convertor jacket water and perform water sampling and analysis as required.
•Responds to equipment alerts and communicates with operators to inspect the equipment.
•Environmental Duties including Oil Spills clean-up/Disposal, Chemical Spill clean-up/Disposal, and Reagent Disposal
•Responsible for all materials used to sustain care and maintenance of the facility.
•Coordinates activities and sets priorities with supervisors.
•Maintain progress records for employee training and testing.
•Work with the metallurgical department, operations department, and maintenance/electrical departments to identify process concerns.
•Prepare training on equipment needed to support process controls, including forklifts, water trucks and sweepers.
•Complete training for tasks as identified in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), Standards, and/or Policies.
•Work under the direction of the Supervisor to identify and implement new strategies to improve process efficiency.
•Continually reinforce best safety practices and company policy
•Report equipment malfunctions to supervision.
•Documents and responds to work order requests.
•Perform emergency shutdown requirements on natural gas and other utilities.
Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business needs.

•Mentor and/or train other operations employees.
•Ability to be trained and to operate equipment including but not limited to front-end loader, forklift, skid steers, water trucks, sweepers, and overhead cranes.
•Applicant must have effective written, visual, electronic, and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety related instructions and procedures given in English.
•Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
•Ability to manage time effectively and set priorities.
•Ability to manage multiple tasks.
•The physical requirements of the position are considered Heavy Work: Exerting up to 110 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
•The ability to work in conditions of extreme heat, extreme cold, and vibration. May involve work with or near chemicals including but not limited to airborne and/or skin exposure, high noise levels, confined spaces, and heights.
•Ability to wear respirator in conditions of fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
•Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps, and the like with agility.
•Availability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays (shifts may be rotating). Mine operations are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year).
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Minimum 5 years of experience or equivalent in smelters/ furnaces/crushing/milling/flotation operations
•Experience in mining industry and process improvement preferred, including a general knowledge of compressors/ convertors/ water systems/ general equipment operation.
•Experience in the use of SAP preferred
•Must have high school diploma or GED
•English language fluency.
