This position is accountable for performing routine Quality Testing of Gas Producers, Power Turbines, and Reduction Gearboxes to ensure conformance to Solar and/or customer specifications. Resolve and troubleshoot routine to complex test facility and package issues. Acquire and review performance and vibration data required for engine acceptance. Accurately record and document test events and incidents in the Automated Test log. Assist Metrology and Maintenance during planned calibration or maintenance activities. Promote and demonstrate leadership and support of all safety, and lean initiatives. Develop and mentor junior level Test Technicians. Clearly demonstrate leadership in all Test activities. Serve as technical expert, ability to independently resolve and develop solutions for highly complex issues. Closely interact with Test Engineering to incorporate improved operating practices and procedures
The successful candidate will be assigned to 2nd shift
- Participate in Test Cell design efforts and provide detailed feedback and ideas
- Engage in Test Cell upgrade and commissioning activities.
- Responsible for development equipment set up and removal. Examples include large ductwork, panels, instrumentation, and coordination of material moving equipment.
- Perform complex development testing following development test agendas and under the direction of engineering.
- Troubleshoot complex systems and understand engineering drawings.
- Work closely with different engineering disciplines to run tests and collect data accurately and timely.
- During development testing, technicians are expected to be available for the test, including weekends. This may include off hours and overtime to cover absences.
- Assist in calibration activities.
- Installation, testing, troubleshooting (including performance and vibration data analysis), minor rework, and removal of units under test.
- Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance (including troubleshooting) of test facilities and facility test equipment to ensure data accuracy while minimizing test cell downtime.
- Minimum 3 years of gas turbine experience
- Background of demonstrating strong mechanical skills.
- Must possess problem solving skills.
- Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet production and project goals.
- Ability to operate shop equipment, bench tools, hand tools, inspection, and test equipment (micrometers and multimeters).
- Ability to resolve complex problems and make sound decisions.
- Willing to take initiative to improve quality, reduce cycle times and minimize cost.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to the overall success of the test cell team.
- High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent.
- 2 Years turbine test cell experience
- Familiar with operating principles of gas turbine engines and mechanical and/or electronic equipment.
- Must possess demonstrated computer skills.
- Familiar with data collection tools, vibration analysis and PLC’s
- Must be able to communicate effectively within a cross-functional environment.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
