This position is responsible for long term transportation and storage strategy development, analytical support, negotiations, and execution. Additional key responsibilities include operational and commercial support as Fuels liaison for New Unit Services in working with natural gas pipelines which serve TVA’s gas fired generation fleet. This position works closely with Gas Operations, Transmission Operations, Environmental, Operations Support (engineering), Enterprise Planning, and other TVA business units which interact with Fuels in optimizing TVA’s Natural gas transportation to deliver low cost and reliable fuel supply for the generation fleet. This position is considered the subject matter expert for natural gas transportation contracting, pipeline tariffs, balancing services, and gas flow dynamics (regional & national).
Accountable for strategy/negotiation/execution of the natural gas transportation, balancing, and storage portfolio for TVA’s natural gas fired fleet. Annual expenditures of ~$75 million but negotiates and executes in tenors usually >= seven years which each deal can generate substantial long term budgetary consideration.
- Advises, serves, and executes as the subject matter expert in natural gas transportation for transactions (up to life of asset <=30 yrs) in negotiating terms with pipelines to ensure the adequacy and reliability of energy supply to TVA’s CC/CT sites and provide adequate contracted balancing agreements and/or storage assets to balance energy for TVA’s generation fleet
- Establishes and develops rapport with key influencers in the energy, gas and related service business
- Provides commercial strategy for transportation and storage services portfolios for existing and new build units
- Coordinates with Regulatory staff on current & future business involving pipelines, Gas/Electric Coordination, rate cases & other filings as applicable. Notify the group as appropriate when there are changes or when the Regulatory staff requests input on how to proceed in specific cases to the benefit of TVA gas transportation.
- Provides effective communication to key stakeholders within Gas Supply & Origination regarding contracted terms for pipeline transportation and storage assets
- Performs research/development on pipeline infrastructure projects and potential capacity availability on pipelines and performs other functions as necessary to meet organizational objectives.
- Assists in the development, approval, and execution of capital improvement projects related to natural gas measurement and lateral infrastructure at plant sites
Education. – BS degree in business, engineering, logistics or a related field. Equivalent education, training & experience will be considered.
Experience. - Prefer 10 years of progressive energy/commodity industry experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Knowledge of transportation portfolio management including the ability to plan, negotiate, and execute complex or high value deal structures. Must possess the critical skills of leadership and communication in order to maintain effective working rapport with high level management, pipeline gas control/analysts, and traders including internal TVA customers and team members within CGS and consistently be vigilant in upholding TVA’s Values. Candidate may be required to obtain & maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements & essential job functions.
