Description:
The Mining Geologist evaluates mineral resources by analyzing geological data and overseeing exploration activities. This role includes mapping, core logging, and modeling ore bodies to guide efficient extraction strategies. The Geologist collaborates closely with engineers and mining teams to optimize production, minimize environmental impact, and ensure regulatory compliance throughout the mine’s life.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mining Geologist plays a critical role in resource evaluation and extraction planning by analyzing geological data to identify and assess ore deposits. This position supports exploration, grade control, and production operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining activities.
Key Responsibilities:
•Perform site visits to the mines.
•Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and logging of drill core, and blast holes.
•Perform laboratory tests on soil and rock.
•Interpret geological data to define ore bodies and support mine planning and scheduling.
•Develop and update 3D geological models using software such as Maptek’s Vulcan and PointModeller programs.
•Monitor ore quality and provide grade control recommendations to maximize resource recovery.
•Oversee exploration programs and supervise drilling contractors during field activities.
•Collaborate with mining engineers and the management team to optimize extraction and processing.
•Maintain detailed records and prepare technical reports and maps for internal and regulatory use.
•Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards at all times.
•Support resource estimation, reserve reporting, and feasibility studies.
•Data entry using the suite of programs in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
•Communicate and coordinate with contractors regarding mining activities, forecasts, and budgets.
•Ensure contractors are following plans, forecasts, and budgets.
•Work with management to develop and update mine plans.
Requirements:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field.
•2–5 years of experience in mining or exploration geology.
•Familiarity with geological software such as Vulcan, PointModeller, QGIS/ArcGIS, or similar.
•Experience with GIS platforms.
•Familiarity with environmental and regulatory requirements.
•Strong knowledge of ore deposit geology, structural interpretation, and mineral resource estimation.
•Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
•Ability to work in remote field locations and physically demanding environments.
•Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
•FAA Part 107 Drone License preferred or able to acquire licensure.
