The Electrician/Instrument Man is responsible for the installation, calibration, and repair of all electrical systems up to and including 24,000 volts. Performs repairs and installations as directed by the Operations Superintendent.
- Provide accurate and complete records as required for specific tasks.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area.
- Perform preventative and routine maintenance on all electrical systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives, PLCs, Motor Control Centers, Radio and video communications, multistage centrifugal pumps, and general station equipment.
- Installs maintain and repair electrical circuits including wires, contactors, breakers, breaker boxes, and motor control components.
- Make necessary electrical installations and/or repairs; services plant MCC’s, control systems, system process equipment components.
- Ensures that all new installations and repairs meet MSHA requirements.
- Performs ground testing on new installations and completes yearly ground testing
- Responsible to provide all hand tools required for the performance of the position.
- Read and understand P&ID drawings, electrical schematics, mechanical schematics, and technical operational manuals.
- Follow work procedures safely and as defined for specific tasks.
- Accountable that all work complies with NEC and any state regulations.
- Performs various duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Responsible and accountable for the performance, and compliance of mine site safety and environmental policies and procedures for all personnel and vendors.
- Participate in Planned General Inspections.
- Provide safety and environmental leadership by always setting a good example.
- This role requires frequent interaction with department employees, supervision, management, and vendors to provide assistance, service, support, and problem resolution as needed.
- Ability to build trust and develop positive working relationships with site personnel and regulatory agencies.
- 5 years experience as a mine electrician.
- 2-years’ experience with programmable logic controllers.
- Must work rotating weekend shifts to provide seven-day per week electrical support.
- Ability to operate a variety of light equipment, hand trucks, and vehicles.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Able to wear and demonstrate to employees the use of personal protective equipment including hardhat, steel-toed footwear, safety glasses, earplugs, gloves (rubber, leather & cloth), and/or any other equipment required to do the job assigned safely.
- Able to lift 50 pounds periodically and 100 pounds occasionally.
- Able to read and interpret various safety warning signs and product MSDS, tags, and labels.
- Ability to distinguish various colors as they relate to safety warning signs, tags, and labels.
- Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating with Warehouse information, issuing directives, and providing feedback, to management and subordinates.
- Ability to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
