Roll Accountabilities

Work closely with external consultants and Hudbay SME’s through design, construction, and commissioning of the mineral processing plants.
Ensure Copper World’s Metallurgical Technology services group’s practices and procedures are developed to support successful startup and ongoing operations
Develop staffing and work plans for Met technology group
Develop deep understanding of Copper World ore characteristics, expected metallurgical response, concentrator and leach plant design,
Lead and develop the Metallurgy group for Copper World’s operation as the project moves through final design, construction, commissioning, and operation.
Work closely with the Corporate Metallurgical Team, and Copper World Project group, throughout the design and development of the Copper World concentrator, with preparations for Concentrator expansion and development of a Concentrate Leach plant.
Provide technical support to the mill operations department, while maintaining safety behavior and cost commitment consistent with Hudbay’s values. Focus on medium-to-the-long-term technical issues to ensure maximum and sustainable profitability of the business.
Work collaboratively with Hudbay Corporate Metallurgical team and Project team to ensure metallurgical models, recovery models, and mill cost models meet requirements for short term and long-term planning.


Safety, Health And Environment

Safety and health of all employees in your area and execution of the area safety plan.
Contribute to the development of the Safety and Health Plan for self and department including standards and controls.
Establish preventative measures to avoid environmental incidents.
Review and coach subordinates (staff and hourly) in their safety and environmental protection work. Including appropriate recognition and discipline consistent with company policies.
Provide support to investigate significant incidents (as requested).
Provide subordinates (staff and hourly) with thorough knowledge of applicable government and company safety regulations.


Planning

Conduct planning and delivery of budget revenue by meeting or exceeding metal production targets
Assist Mill Manager with updating and formulation of production forecasts, capital, operating and production budgets


Production (Technical)

Develops a detailed understanding of the process flow sheets and operation of concentrator (and leach plant).
Direct technical input into the operation of the processing plants to ensure budget and forecast production targets are met.
Identification and rapid implementation of improvement opportunities, actively seeking opportunities for increased free cash flow and reduced costs. Subsequently leading Plant Metallurgy team to assist in planning and execution.
An active involvement in processing plant commissioning tasks, providing robust product for the operating team and delivering on expected performance gains.
Prepares scopes and carries out laboratory and plant test work using a range of analytical techniques and equipment to support production quality control programs.
Design and monitoring mineralogical test work data to inform longer term projects and plant operating philosophy
Conduct end of month metal balance reconciliation when in operation


Cost Management

Establish measures to remain within allocated costs.
Allocate and approve overtime
Review and act to reduce key reagent and grinding media consumption.


People

Provide mentoring and coaching to area specific Plant Metallurgists and operations personnel for continuous performance improvement.
Compliance with the requirements of each of the HR systems
The effective application of managerial leadership practices.


Compliance

Have in place systems that will provide integrity, timely and relevant information flow, openness and transparency, effective risk management, and sound controls consistent with the Copper World management systems. Reviews all documents to ensure they are complete prior to filing as records.
Take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislation, regulations, policies, work standards, and governance.


Minimum Qualifications And Education

University degree in mineral processing Metallurgy or Engineering
Manage a team of supervisors and technicians/professionals in metallurgy and related fields; and value delegating work to team members in achieving the required production on a 24-hour x 7day basis safely and within established and approved mining processes.
10+ years’ experience in metallurgical teams of operating processing plants, including supervisory experience
Knowledge to read and interpret production plans, metallurgy, and production schedules to optimize production.
Familiarity with copper flotation processing plants, including flotation of oxides essential.
Familiarity with concentrate leach technology would be an asset.
Familiarity with Analytical lab operations, requirements, and procedures
Theoretical understanding and practical experience with safety management, asset utilization, communication, process variation (SPC), and management accounting Prior experience at mining operations in technical or financial roles would be a strong asset
Technical Expertise: Possesses a strong technical background in mining engineering, geology, surveying and related fields, allowing for the effective design and implementation of mine plans.
Excellent communication skills are required Demonstrated skill to plan, establish targets/standards, schedule resources, and assign work in such a way that team members can make effective use of materials, equipment, and tools to achieve pre-defined targets.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to recommend corrective actions based on monitoring the conditions that could adversely affect, under or exceed, the scheduled production targets.
