Job Title Mechanical Press Operator | Status Hourly Non Exempt | Department Production
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Press Operator to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical press operations, equipment maintenance, and safety protocols. The Mechanical Press Operator is responsible for the precise setup, operation, and monitoring of mechanical presses to form aerospace components in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and industry standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring parts meet stringent aerospace quality and compliance requirements while maintaining a safe and efficient production environment.
- Set up and operate mechanical presses per job travelers, blueprints, and specifications.
- Install and align dies, adjust press settings, and perform first-article inspections to ensure conformity before running production.
- Monitor press operation to maintain repeatability and dimensional accuracy.
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring tools ( calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM interface as required )
- Document inspections and production results in accordance with AS9100 quality management requirements
- Ensure traceability of materials, parts, and tooling per customer and regulatory requirements
- Identify and immediately report any non-conformances or deviations
- Follow company safety protocols, including PPE usage and lockout | tagout procedures
- Conduct basic preventative maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of presses
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to support 5S and lean manufacturing principles
- Accurately complete travelers, production logs, quality checklists, and non-conformance reports
- Support audits by providing documentation and demonstrating compliance with aerospace standards
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical | vocational training preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating mechanical presses, preferably in aerospace or other precision manufacturing environments
- Experience with tight tolerance forming, metal stamping, or deep draw processes a plus
- Ability to read and interpret aerospace blueprints, specifications, and work travelers
- Knowledge of AS9100 | ISO 9001 requirements and documentation practices
- Familiarity with SPC, first article inspections (FAI), and basic GD&T concepts
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and ability to hold tight tolerances
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials and parts ( up to 50 pounds )
- Stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks and work in a production environment
- Manual dexterity and coordination to operate press controls and perform adjustments
