Staff Mechanical Engineer

is seeking a

Staff Mechanical Engineer

to support the assigned production area by ensuring safe operations, environmental compliance, and continuous improvements in equipment reliability and asset integrity. You will take ownership of both static and rotating equipment, including pumps, motors, turbines, sealing systems, lubrication systems, vessels, piping, valves, and heat exchangers. You will apply strong technical competence to assess performance, implement maintenance strategies, and deliver cost-effective solutions. You will influence budgets by prioritizing maintenance, preparing investment proposals, monitoring expenditures, and performing life cycle cost analyses. You will build strong collaboration with production teams, engineering specialists, maintenance and turnaround staff, project engineering, support functions, and third-party vendors to achieve reliable and sustainable operations.

To succeed as a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you must have:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, with a minimum of six years of related experience in refining or petrochemical manufacturing.

- Solid knowledge of maintenance and reliability concepts, including risk assessment, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Management of Change, and structured problem solving.

- Demonstrated expertise with static and/or rotating equipment, supported by familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards.

- Certifications such as Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Vibration Analyst are a plus.

- Ability to travel within a petrochemical manufacturing environment, including climbing ladders, walking extended distances, and working outdoors for up to 50% of the time.

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will:

- Serve as the first point of contact for mechanical systems, partnering with Operations and Maintenance to resolve day-to-day issues, conduct field walkthroughs, and support recovery from operational upsets.

- Lead key processes such as Management of Change (MOC), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), maintenance execution, and process safety compliance to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

- Provide technical assurance for equipment changes, monitor equipment health using inspections, performance data, and analysis tools, and drive proactive maintenance strategies.

- Investigate equipment failures, perform root cause analyses, apply causal reasoning, and implement sustainable solutions while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

- Contribute to long-term maintenance plans, manage project scopes, budgets, and priorities, and support turnaround planning and execution to deliver reliable and cost-effective operations.

PEMEX Deer Park

is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX. It is part of the Pemex group, a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics, and marketing. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crude oil to produce high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The Pemex site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities, allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products.
