About This Job

Kinder Morgan is currently seeking a Mechanical Integrity Engineer to guide and support the Mechanical Integrity Department at the Elba Island LNG Facility in Savannah, Georgia. Mechanical Integrity (MI) can be defined as the management of critical process equipment to ensure it is designed and installed correctly and that it is operated and maintained properly.

Kinder Morgan is currently seeking a Mechanical Integrity (MI) Engineer to serve provide leadership in asset integrity management for fixed equipment, piping, pressure vessels, tanks, pressure relief devices and mechanical systems at our LNG facility in Savannah, Georgia. This includes collaborating with Kinder Morgan engineering, operations and maintenance departments, third party contractors, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure safe and reliable equipment integrity.

Mechanical Integrity Program Development and Management

Lead the continued development of the Mechanical Integrity program at the LNG terminal including risk-based inspection (RBI) methodologies, and inspection intervals.

Use sound engineering practices to provide guidance and application of industry standards and specifications to develop cost-effective solutions for mechanical integrity issues
Serve as the facilities Technical Authority regarding application of various industry codes and standards and maintain updated company specifications and standards.
Participate in the continued development of the maintenance program at the facility including asset hierarchy, equipment criticality, pressure relief device inspection strategy, etc.


Technical Support

Provide guidance and oversight to the facility Mechanical Integrity Specialist.
Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for mechanical integrity incidents/near misses, develop action plans to eliminate repeat failures, and implement corrective action plans
Participate in the evaluation of Integrity Operating Windows (IOWs) for pressure equipment that coincides with the Damage Mechanism Assessment
Review and understand design basis for pressure relief equipment such as relief valves, rupture discs/pins, vacuum breakers, etc.
Participate in the Management of Change processes to ensure mechanical integrity aspects are properly addressed including material selections and fitness-for-service assessments


Data Management and Analysis

Oversee the loading of inspection data into the MI software database
Oversee mechanical integrity inspection, data collection, and analysis
Collect data for regulatory reports, key performance indicators, and equipment health monitoring tasks


Project Support

Provide technical input for capital projects, including development of design basis and execution plans
Coordinate and develop proposals for plant improvements including preliminary estimates and budgets
Ensure that modifications or additions to the facility meet applicable codes and standards and are executed according to industry best practice.


Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with federal regulations including FERC, PHMSA, and other applicable codes and standards
Develop and maintain NDE procedures to ensure compliance with company specifications and RAGAGEP pertaining to piping, pressure vessels, and tanks
Provide technical support for federal, state, and internal audits


Leadership and Communication

Assist in developing and delivering mechanical integrity related training for operations and maintenance personnel
Provide support for emergencies and standby situations
Communicate mechanical integrity strategy and KPIs to senior management
Develop working relationships with other department personnel to identify opportunities that add value to the facility
Interface with third-party inspection contractors, including quality assurance of inspection documentation

Position Requirements

Position Requirements:


B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and/or Materials Engineering, or an applicable technical degree.


Experience / specific knowledge:

Minimum of 5 years of experience with fixed equipment and piping in LNG, petroleum, natural gas, or petrochemical industry required.
Knowledge and understanding of mechanical integrity principles and their application in an operating facility. Preferred experience with cryogenic equipment, inspection, testing and maintenance program development, including risk-based inspection
Knowledge reading and interpreting P&IDs, inspection isometrics, pressure equipment data sheets, and other mechanical integrity related documents
Knowledge and experience of ASME Fluid Service categories including safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, flare systems, high/low pressure systems


Certifications, licenses, registrations:

Must possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements
API certifications (510, 570, 580, 653) and AMPP CIP Level 1, preferred or ability to obtain all listed within specified timeframe of 2.5 years
Must hold or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card


Competencies, skills, and abilities:

Computer skills (competent in MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software)
Thorough knowledge of mechanical integrity principles and their application in an operating facility
Working knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards:Proficiency in fitness-for-service and advanced analysis methodologies
+ ASME B31.3, ASME BPVC, PCC + API 510, 570, 576, 579, 580, 653 + 49 CFR 193, NFPA 59A, OSHA 1910.119 PSM
Understanding of materials and metallurgy, corrosion mechanisms, welding procedures, and NDE technologies
Must become proficient in Mistras’ Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS) within first year in the position
Good verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus
Ability to work with a team, take direction from management, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, forecasting, and budgeting
Ability to speak and understand English


Physical demands and Working conditions:

Work is primarily performed in an industrial plant environment with exposure to potentially extreme weather conditions
Ability to climb and work from elevated platforms, ladders, walkways, and enter confined spaces
Must be able to wear all necessary PPE equipment including fire-resistant clothing and hearing protection
May work in low-lit areas
Occasional travel will be required. Travel will vary depending upon business needs
Be available for shift work when applicable
Must respond to and address callouts and emergencies after regular business hours including after dark hours, which may require carrying a communication device.
