Job Purpose
Mechanical engineers support engineering and manufacturing in all things related to product design and manufacture. This role is the technical authority when dealing with mechanical or electro/mechanical facets of the products produced at DSS Valves.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform structural studies.
•Work with design engineering to develop products that will perform under both internal and external loading conditions.
•Studies require the use of common strength of material design practices as well as the use of FEA software.
•Perform valve performance studies.
•Use of flow dynamics principles couple with CFD software studies will be utilized to analyze valve performance.
•Analysis of metallic and non-metallic materials related to compatibility and performance in the presence of chemicals and adverse environmental conditions.
•Generate and maintain all top-level bills of materials.
•Create a bill of material from current order requirements.
•Generate part numbers as needed.
•Maintain part database within company ERP system.
•Develop and maintain product designs.
•Work with engineering management and staff to produce detailed solid model designs as well as detailed product drawings. Drawings will include but are not limited to all dimensional requirements as well as linear and geometric tolerancing.
•Maintain up to date design documentation.
•Design changes are reviewed with engineering management as well as design engineers through internal requests as well as external requests using the engineering change request (ECR) system.
•Design changes are made and documented using the engineering change notification (ECN) system.
•Administer design material.
•Provide design information to application engineers to aid in product implementation and specification in current and future installations.
•Provide design information for sales personnel to aid in securing current and future sales contracts.
•Provide design documentation and information to purchasing to aid in the procurement of product.
•Provide design documentation and information for manufacturing to aid in the assembly and production of products.
•Facilitate testing as well as research and development.
•Assist production testing when needed.
•Support research and development activities
Qualifications
•Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
•Working knowledge of common drawing practices as well as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
•Strong communication skills
•Must work in multifunctional groups.
Physical Requirements
Position requires extended periods of time sitting using a computer and concentration. May require lifting heavy parts and or equipment.
