Summary
The Mechanic III will support plant operations by maintenance and repair of high pressure boilers, piping systems, and other equipment necessary for operation of steam, chilled water, and power plants. This is a full-time, non-exempt, union position located in Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate must be willing to become a Bargaining Unit Member of the IBEW Local 614. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Responsibilities
•Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining existing boiler systems and related equipment.
•Perform x-ray quality welds on carbon steel and chrome piping, valves, traps, and other equipment.
•Replace and repair piping system components.
•Identify and assist with ordering replacement parts and fittings.
•Performs housekeeping duties and other duties assigned by supervisor.
Basic Qualifications
•Minimum of two years of recent experience as a technician performing maintenance and repair in central plant, power generation or other process plants.
Preferred Qualifications
•Technical degree or vocational certificate in a welding discipline.
•Certificates in welding processes including SMAW, TIG and MIG.
•Ability to pass welding qualifications tests needed to weld under R-Stamp program.
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
•Possess an understanding of rigging principles techniques for heavy equipment.
•Thorough understanding of safety procedures and Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures.
•Ability to complete routine paperwork and work orders with computer input.
Physical Requirements
•Must submit to company provided pre-employment physical exam and drug screening.
•Ability to hear and understand audible alarms and detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment.
•Ability to work inside tight confined spaces for an extended period of time.
•Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company.
•The job can be physically demanding involving movement of heavy equipment and carrying materials up and down stairs.
•Candidates should be able to lift and maneuver up to and including 70 lbs.
