Position Summary:
The Mechanic 2 is responsible for performing advanced mechanical work, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of heavy-duty equipment and vehicles used in oilfield pumping operations. This role requires a thorough understanding of hydraulic systems, engines, and transmissions to ensure that all equipment is operational and safe. The Mechanic 2 will assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing issues, and implementing corrective actions, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance of equipment.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
•Performs complex mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty trucks, pumps, hydraulic systems, engines, and other equipment.
•Inspects equipment regularly to identify potential issues, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.
•Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager to schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks.
•Conducts preventive maintenance, including lubrication, oil changes, and part replacements.
•Troubleshoots mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and recommends necessary repairs or part replacements.
•Maintains accurate maintenance records, including work orders and parts inventories.
•Trains and mentors junior mechanics and apprentices (e.g., Mechanic 1) on best practices and equipment repairs.
•Ensures all safety protocols and procedures are followed, including lockout/tagout procedures.
•Operates equipment for testing purposes to ensure repairs are successful.
•Collaborates with the operations team to ensure equipment meets operational needs and deadlines.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
•High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in mechanical or technical fields preferred.
•Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably in oilfield or heavy-duty equipment environments.
•In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment mechanics.
•Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
•Strong troubleshooting skills with experience using diagnostic equipment and tools.
•Basic computer skills for maintenance record-keeping.
•Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment and work in outdoor and demanding environments.
Working Conditions:
•Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
•The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
•Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
•Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
•Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
•React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
•Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
•Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
•Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
•Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
