Mechanic Helper

A Mechanic Helper in a steel mill at TMS will assist experienced mechanics with the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment. This involves tasks such as disassembling and assembling equipment, cleaning and organizing work areas, hand-tooling, and retrieving materials, under the guidance of supervisors or senior mechanics. The helper may also perform routine maintenance, help with troubleshooting and repairs, and assist with the overhaul of motors and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

This position consist of but not limited to: Trainees, C Class mechanics, PM Techs, Greaser, Entry level welders

Assisting with repairs and maintenance:

This includes tasks like disassembling and assembling equipment, using hand tools, and performing routine maintenance.

Cleaning and organizing work areas:

Keeping the work area and tools organized is crucial for efficiency and safety.

Retrieving and handling materials:

The helper may be responsible for fetching tools and equipment from the storehouse and transporting them to work areas.

Troubleshooting and reporting:

They may assist with identifying and reporting mechanical issues, which can help experienced mechanics with their diagnoses.

Performing preventative maintenance:

This could include tasks like oil changes, inspections, and cleaning, depending on the specific mill's needs.

Following safety protocols:

Steel mills have strict safety procedures, and the helper must adhere to these protocols to ensure their own and others' safety.

Following instructions and learning:

The helper must follow instructions from supervisors and senior mechanics and be willing to learn new skills.
