PetroChina Canada (PCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited which is partially owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise. CNPC is China's largest oil company and the world's third largest oil company, operating 91 energy-related projects in over 35 countries and regions. PCC has invested billions of dollars in an asset-rich portfolio of upstream, midstream and downstream operations. In Alberta, this includes our MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects, Duvernay Shale Gas and a 50% interest in the Grand Rapids Pipeline. In British Columbia, we hold joint venture interests in the Groundbirch tight gas project and LNG Canada.
PetroChina Canada is recruiting for Marketing Advisor to join the Commercial & Marketing Team in Calgary.
Reporting to the Director, Commercial & Marketing, the Marketing function will play an integral role within the Commercial team. This position is responsible for representing PCC’s interest in various marketing contracts and acts as an interface coordinator with an affiliate organization in managing the daily balancing and scheduling for all commodity purchases and sales. Additionally, the role will be required to support various business development initiatives as needed.
Accountabilities
The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Support Director, Commercial & Marketing in identifying and executing business improvement opportunities in all PCC business lines (Oil Sands, Pipelines, Duvernay, Groundbirch, and LNG)
• Interface coordination between PCC functional teams and affiliates to optimize value generation,
• Monitor and optimize nomination, balancing, and scheduling of various pipelines for all commodities the company purchases and sells, including oil, gas, diluent, condensate, etc.
• Identify and implement process improvements for the commercial and marketing function
• Liaise with production staff (both operated and non-operated assets) regarding current production, gas requirements for operations, anticipated changes, maintenance periods, new production or gas requirements, forecasts, etc.
• Monitor affiliate oil and gas buy/sell activities to ensure accuracy and alignment with agreements
• Cultivate and maintain external relationships with relevant external partners, sourcing, negotiating and structuring, and executing transactions
• Prepare a range of reports, presentations, business plans, executive summaries for the executive leadership team and headquarter stakeholders
• Work closely with asset teams to develop mitigation and opportunity strategies, and work to improve existing forecasting and analytic processes to limit market exposure
• Track pipeline restrictions and/or maintenance schedules that could impact gas and liquids flows, acting as an interface between assets teams and affiliate to report any curtailment and potential operational issues
• Verify, coordinate, and track all product transport invoices for accuracy and confirm transportation adjustments/tariff charges/and base prices or commodity prices reflect the terms of purchase and sale agreements
• Monitor, manage and execute external asset marketing contract renewals, expiries, and commitment updates and support marketing portfolio optimization across company assets
• Maintain and enhance operational relationship with marketing affiliates, Joint Venture partners, key external mid-stream service providers and other external counterparties and represent PCC in shipper meetings for corresponding pipelines
• Support pipeline and midstream portfolio optimization by identifying, developing, and presenting internal business cases to support contract renewals, mitigations, and opportunities
• Assist in negotiations with third parties for a broad range of marketing and commercial services
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics or Math preferred
• MBA, CFA, or accounting designation would be an asset
• 8-10 years industry experience in oil and gas marketing or scheduling
• Marketing and scheduling contracts experience and business acumen to develop business case to support potential mitigations and opportunities
• Knowledge of Western Canada gas pipeline systems & storage operators, including Keystone, Enbridge Mainline, TC (NGTL), Enbridge (WEI), Alliance (APL) and Pembina
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Proven ability to build positive working relationships
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse personalities
• Solid planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task and handle pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
• Strong commercial acumen and deep understanding of commodity markets
• Able to identify opportunities to improve existing processes and to lead implementation of changes
