Job Overview:
Metal Fab Guys is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Design Specialist with a solid working knowledge of SolidWorks and a background in precision sheet metal fabrication. This individual will be responsible for creating, organizing, and developing drawings, performing design work, light nesting, and collaborating closely with the fabrication team. A deep understanding of general manufacturing practices is essential to ensure designs are optimized for fabrication and assembly.
Key Responsibilities:
•Utilize SolidWorks to create accurate 2D and 3D models for precision sheet metal fabrication projects, ensuring designs meet project specifications.
•Perform design modifications and develop new components to align with project requirements and customer needs.
•Organize, develop, and maintain comprehensive engineering drawings, ensuring they are precise and complete for production use.
•Collaborate closely with engineers and fabricators to ensure that designs align with manufacturing capabilities and meet high standards of precision.
•Review and ensure all drawings comply with industry standards and Metal Fab Guys' internal quality specifications.
•Provide ongoing support to production teams by reviewing designs for manufacturability, offering guidance on fabrication processes, and ensuring efficient execution.
•Manage design revisions and documentation, ensuring timely updates and clear communication with all relevant stakeholders.
•Maintain an organized workflow to track project progress and ensure the on-time delivery of designs and drawings.
•Demonstrate effective communication with team members, providing technical assistance and problem-solving support as necessary.
•Continuously improve understanding of Metal Fab Guys' laser automation program, ensuring effective integration with project requirements and estimations.
•Apply job and sheet estimation skills to assess the scope and requirements of projects, ensuring accuracy in cost and time predictions.
•Ability to learn and use Metal Fab Guys laser automation program.
Qualifications:
•Proficiency in SolidWorks for creating and developing 2D and 3D models, and detailed engineering drawings.
•Strong background in precision sheet metal fabrication, with an emphasis on design and manufacturing processes.
•In-depth knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques and processes, with the ability to apply them to ensure manufacturability and precision.
•Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
•Familiarity with general manufacturing practices, with the capability to integrate them into design workflows to optimize production.
•Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and ensure timely completion of designs and drawings.
•High attention to detail, ensuring the creation of accurate, high-quality drawings and models that meet project specifications.
•Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, including engineers and fabricators.
•Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in metal fabrication, is highly preferred.
Education and Experience:
•Associate’s degree or certification in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
•5+ years of experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment focusing on sheet metal.

•Mobility to move between office and shop floor, including standing, walking, and occasional bending.
•Dexterity to handle measuring tools and prototypes if assisting with quality checks.
•Hearing and communication skills to collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and CNC operators in a potentially noisy environment.
