We are hiring a Full Time, Permanent, Manager, Infrastructure Architecture, Planning and Cloud position out of Edmonton, AB.
As the Manager, Infrastructure Architecture, Planning and Cloud, you are primarily responsible for the performance of EPCOR’s core IS Infrastructure Services – applying your knowledge and expertise to evaluate and strategically plan for new platforms and technologies, developing new and maintaining existing infrastructure services and Information Technology (IT) roadmaps, creating and maintaining technology standards, reviewing existing systems, and providing oversight and support to IS Infrastructure Services.
Additionally, you are responsible for coaching and leading a high performing team of Cloud Architects and Infrastructure Planners to provide an excellent delivery service, develop IT roadmaps - these roadmaps will define the desired future state of the IT environment, incorporating new technologies, systems, and capabilities essential for achieving strategic objectives. Your ability to effectively build relationships and collaborate with key business partners and other diverse stakeholders will enhance stakeholder consultation and enable your team to translate complex terms to technical and non-technical audience; recommend appropriate technical solutions and complete requirements gathering and documentation.

What you’d be responsible for
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure Planning & Architecture and will have the following key accountabilities:
Annual Strategy & Budget Planning (Architecture, Cloud & Infrastructure):
•Leading the development of annual and 5-year IT Capital Plans and Architecture Roadmaps for IS Infrastructure and Security services, while contributing to broader IS Infrastructure plans through the design of forward-thinking technology roadmaps, standards, and service models.
•Maintaining a strong understanding of EPCOR’s IS Infrastructure and Operations strategy and actively evaluating emerging technologies to identify and assess their applicability to EPCOR’s evolving needs.
•Translating architectural roadmaps into actionable IT Capital forecasts, identifying budget requirements for implementation, and ensuring infrastructure investments remain aligned with financial constraints and organizational priorities.
Architecture Governance & Standards
•Championing adherence to enterprise architecture standards while continuously refining them to meet evolving business and technology needs; providing solution architecture guidance across projects, operations, and functional teams.
•Translating strategic infrastructure plans into actionable deliverables, including technology strategies, roadmaps, standards, and solution designs.
•Partnering on technical architecture assessments and leading implementations across Infrastructure, Security, and Cloud initiatives to ensure scalable and secure solutions.
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
•Collaborating cross-functionally to define, monitor, and report on key system and technology performance metrics that drive operational excellence.
•Analyzing performance issues to identify root causes and lead initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in reliability, efficiency, and service quality.
•Ensuring infrastructure performance meets or exceeds expectations by maintaining high availability, up-to-date road maps and capital plans, on-time project delivery, budget compliance, and strong customer satisfaction scores.
Relationship & Incident Management
•Cultivating strategic relationships and maintaining strong alignment between IS, internal EPCOR functions, and external partners through proactive engagement, effective communication, and a commitment to positioning IS as a trusted advisor and enabler of business success.
•Acting as a consultative partner to stakeholders, ensuring shared understanding of challenges and opportunities while co-creating effective, technology-driven solutions.
•Establishing and managing robust support channels with key vendors to ensure service continuity and innovation.
•Providing expert guidance and leadership in resolving complex IT incidents, problems, and change initiatives to minimize business disruption.
People Leadership & Team Development
•Leading and developing a high-performing team of Cloud and Planning Architects by aligning team or individual deliverables with strategic goals.
•Fostering a culture of innovation and accountability, and driving talent development through coaching, mentorship, and succession planning.
•Championing inclusive leadership and team engagement through collaborative practices and meaningful team-building initiatives.
What’s required to be successful
•Degree or diploma focusing on Information Systems, or a combination of experience and training in a related field.
+ Knowledge and/or certification in CoBIT, ITIL, TOGAF, SCRUM, Azure, Cisco, and Palo Alto would be considered an asset.
•Experience that includes:
+ 7+ years of experience in IT, with a strong focus on enterprise datacenter infrastructure services and leading large-scale infrastructure and technology advancement projects, including the development of strategic roadmaps.
+ 5+ years in progressive leadership roles, with a demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing technical teams.
+ Highly skilled in structuring and delivering long term capital delivery plans, with the ability to develop and manage annual and multi-year budgets coupled with a strong financial acumen.
+ Strong knowledge of datacenter infrastructure hardware and software, including MS Windows, Linux, Unix, Active Directory, SQL, Exchange, Citrix, file and print systems, NAS/SAN storage, system builds, software deployment, LAN/WAN/SD-WAN, VPN, network security (firewalls, IPS, MFA), Microsoft 365, and cloud platforms.
+ Solid understanding of IT security and service management frameworks, with experience designing and implementing IT solutions that meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
+ Considerable experience in developing and maintaining enterprise-level infrastructure architecture and standards, along with strong capabilities in technical documentation, process mapping, and procedural development.
+ Well-versed in licensing strategies, emerging technology trends, and enterprise cybersecurity principles, with the ability to assess and apply innovations that align with business goals.
•A proven track record and demonstrable experience in building and leading teams as well as coaching and managing team’s performance to achieve pre-defined business goals.
•Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders and diverse stakeholders to communicate complex concepts and strategies in explainable ways based on the targeted audience.
•Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross functional teams to achieve complicated goals and objectives.
•Possess high attention to detail while managing multiple priorities and large volumes of data and information in a dynamic environment.
