The Role:
As a Junior Estimator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the preconstruction process for a variety of commercial construction projects. Working closely with senior estimators, project managers, and other team members, you will assist in the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates, proposals, or requests for qualifications. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to learn the intricacies of construction estimating, gain exposure to diverse project types, and contribute to the strategic growth of our organization. Responsibilities:
•Assist senior estimators in the digital setup and review of project plans, specifications, and other contract documents to understand the full scope of work.
•High level professional proposal writing and graphical representation of infographics to depict company capabilities quickly and succinctly for large, usually government clientele
•Perform quantity take-offs for various trades, accurately measuring and documenting materials and labor requirements.
•Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring thorough coverage of project requirements through detailed matrices and understanding of subcontractor scopes, capabilities and highlighting and preparing for exclusions to the work
•Assist in the development of bid packages and the distribution of project information to subcontractors and suppliers through our bid management platform
•Input and maintain estimate data in our estimating software, ensuring accuracy and completeness for certain assemblies or work products as directed by the VP of preconstruction
•Prepare and deliver informative capabilities briefs to prospective customers across our geographic region when competing for project work via qualifications-based selection process in lieu of hard or negotiated bid.
•Contribute to value engineering efforts by researching alternative materials and methods.
•Develop and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
•Continuously learn and stay updated on industry best practices, new materials, and construction technologies.
•Provide support to the preconstruction team on various administrative and project-related tasks as needed to include but not limited to scouring bidding sites and planrooms, negotiating renewal fees and licenses to estimating packages and subscriptions, updating software packages across our preconstruction users
•Cost Analysis: Research and analyze cost data, vendor quotes, and market trends to develop reliable estimates as well as normalizing our production rates via recommendations and research into nation wide production rates gathered from RS Means or Gordian data sets
•Subcontractor Coordination: Assist in the bidding process and evaluation of subcontractor proposals to include bid day management support, subcontractor calling and interest management for specified bid project efforts
•Document Management: Maintain organized and accurate records of all estimating documents in our standardized approach to folder and document naming/templating for others to check and QA/QC your work and logic
•Value Engineering Support: Identify potential cost savings and value enhancements.
•Site Visits: Conduct site visits to gather information and assess project conditions.
•Software Proficiency: Utilize industry-standard estimating software (PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Excel).
•Team Collaboration: Work effectively with project managers, superintendents, and other team members.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
•Appropriate and commensurate field experience in conjunction with an associate’s degree may be acceptable
•1-3 years of experience in construction estimating or field experience (internships considered).
•Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
•Entry level Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiar with estimating software like WinEst or RokTec
•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Strong communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
•Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
•Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements:
•Work is performed both in an office and on job sites, inside and outside; exposed to extreme heat and cold, as well as multiple weather conditions Must be able to drive, have drivers’ license and clean driving record Sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crawl, climb or balance may be required to perform inspections on job sites
