Job Summary
The Junior Metal Fabrication Estimator prepares accurate, competitive quotes for manufacturing metal products based on RFQs, drawings, and specifications. This role includes cost analysis, collaboration with production, vendor sourcing, and ensuring compliance with customer requirements.
- Analyze RFQs, blueprints, bills of materials, and specs to prepare comprehensive estimates.
- Estimate material costs, labor (machining, welding, finishing, assembly), and outside services.
- Coordinate with production leads to determine labor hours and lead times.
- Source raw material pricing and vendor quotes; compare for cost efficiency and reliability.
- Use estimating software and maintain price databases.
- Manage quote submission deadlines and handle change order repricing.
- Facilitate communication with customers and vendors.
- Communicate production complexities and estimate breakdowns to the sales team.
- 5–8 years estimating experience in metal fabrication, structural steel, or CNC environments.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, bills of materials, and manufacturing drawings.
- Familiar with metal fabrication processes—press brake, laser cutting, CNC, welding, finishing.
- Strong computer skills: Excel, Word, Outlook, estimating software
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with industry standards like SMACNA.
- Experience adjusting estimates for change orders and cost revisions.
- Strong judgment and planning abilities for on-time submissions.
- Associate degree (or equivalent) in engineering, manufacturing, or related field; or equivalent experience.
