Reporting to the Executive Leader, Field Operations, the Senior Estimator for High Voltage lines and underground construction is responsible for the preparation of Time & Material, Lump Sum and Unit Price tender submissions, project schedules & execution plans. Key operational metrics include growth, efficiency, and profitability of the business unit.
- Responsible for all estimating services, tender submissions, and proposals including preparation and assembly of all required information and documentation. Draw on other resources as required and as appropriate.
- Review technical documents, drawings and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop a plan and schedule to serve as basis for estimate.
- Develop quantity take-offs of direct/indirect work items including subcontracted work as required for estimate submissions.
- Prepare and analyze bid packages for third party procured materials and subcontracts. Query subcontractors or material vendors as required to clear up any ambiguities/errors/omissions in tender documents prior to tender closing.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits to clarity scope of work and identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
- Interface with owners on bid development inquiries and estimate clarifications requests.
- Execute bid forms including the submission of all security, bonding, and insurance requirements.
- Summarize quantities; prepare spreadsheets for alternate and separate prices as required for tenders.
- Evaluate and provide cost and schedule impacts of the various alternative construction methods and materials.
- Review assembled bid prior to submission with senior management.
- Review, analyze and check for completeness of proposal documents.
- Prepare post-bid analysis and tender results summaries.
- Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
- Additional duties as assigned.- Degree (Electrical Engineering) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or Journeyman Power System Electrician with 10+ years substation construction experience. - 5-7+ years of high-voltage electrical estimating experience in distribution lines and underground power and underground residential development up through and including 138kV facilities considered an asset.

- Strong skills in reading, analyzing and interpreting technical (civil, mechanical and electrical) drawings, bill of materials, specification, contracts, and bid documents.
