Junior Control engineer - Newlight
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controls Engineer to design, develop, and optimize control systems for our hydrogen injection system. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and superior performance of our systems
Newlight's mission is to accelerate the transition of the maritime industry to sustainable energy by making sustainable shipping affordable and focusing on the current fleet with hydrogen integration. Newlight develops a plugin for ships that reduces fuel consumption and emissions by injecting hydrogen as a dual fuel for existing engines.
What You Will Be Doing:
•Assist in developing control algorithms and logic for hydrogen-diesel dual fuel systems
•Support the setup, testing, and troubleshooting of control components (PLCs, sensors, actuators)
•Help integrate DAQ systems for lab and onboard engine testing
•Contribute to system documentation, wiring diagrams, and test protocols
•Collaborate in testing cycles and on-site experimentation with hardware-in-the-loop setups
•Learn and apply safety standards and maritime engineering practices
•Support senior engineers in developing scalable control architectures
Requirements we seek:
•B.Sc. in Mechanical, Electrical, Control Systems Engineering, or related field
•0–2 years of hands-on experience or internships in control systems or automation
•Familiarity with PLCs, MATLAB/Simulink, or embedded systems (coursework or projects welcome)
•Basic knowledge of sensors, actuators, and communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, etc.)
•Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and willingness to get hands-on
•Interest in marine engines, combustion, or hydrogen systems is a plus
•Good team player with strong communication and learning mindset
•Willingness to be on-site and work in a fast-paced R&D environment
Ways To Stand Out:
•Experience with data acquisition systems or lab instrumentation
•Exposure to maritime or automotive engines (projects, studies, or hobbies)
•Programming experience in Python, C/C++, or LabVIEW
•Passion for clean energy and sustainable technologies
