The Intermediate Electrical Designer provides design services for electrical and related facility systems, following Federation and client standards. Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, this role works closely with other designers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes. Responsibilities include preparing drawings, specifications, and technical documents, while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong client relationships. Success in this role requires creativity, attention to detail, and a commitment to design excellence.
- Deliver electrical design services on energy industry projects of varying size and complexity.
- Develop electrical drawings, including single line diagrams, power, lighting and grounding layouts, cable schedules, panel schedules, schematics and wiring diagrams
- Work closely with design team members to ensure design documents are completed according to deadlines, the CEC, and quality standards as set out by the company/client
- Review and revise drawings in collaboration with engineers to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Perform other technical duties to support project delivery
- Support project delivery by performing technical drafting for multiple disciplines (e.g., electrical, structural)
- Conduct quality checks of internal drawings and provide feedback on vendor drawings to maintain design quality and alignment with project standards
- Build complete electrical and instrumentation design packages for industrial facilities using provided load lists, one-line diagrams, P&IDs, and plot plans
- Develop detailed 3D models in coordination with other engineering disciplines to deliver fully integrated design outcomes
- Collaborate with clients to identify opportunities where engineering and construction expertise can add value.
- Provide exceptional client service – dependable, responsive, sensible
- May be required to act as single point of contact for client in managing design or drafting projects
- Provide input into estimates for prospective client projects
- Diploma in Electrical or Engineering design and drafting technology
- 5-9 years of electrical design experience in the oil and gas or related industry
- Experience with AutoCAD and related 3D modelling software such as Plant 3D, Cadworx, or AutoPlant
- Knowledge of CSA Electrical standards, Canadian Electrical code
- Designation with ASET is an asset
- Experience working on technical projects and project budgets
- Field or shop experience is an asset
- Valid driver’s licence required
