The Infrastructure Architect is a key technology expert with strategic responsibility for the technical and operational results of enabling technologies utilized to ensure the organization meets its business goals. This person will be involved in developing, recommending and maintaining the infrastructure technologies, standards and services that the Datacenter Services group provides to Vistra and its subsidiaries. Providing technical guidance, recommendations and architectural in support of the delivery of infrastructure services for IT and business projects. This person will also be responsible for managing the transformations of existing technologies to the new standards and practice.

- Strategic Planning & Technology:
- Provide guidance, adherence to standards, alternative considerations related to technologies being submitted to IT for consideration from the business.
- Development and maintenance of architecture, standards, delivery blueprints, & roadmaps
- Leads strategic and technical architecture (TA) direction for infrastructure technologies
- Research, develop, and document platform standards and direction once approved
- Recommend technology architecture strategy
- Deliver technology roadmaps aligned with IT strategy
- Research and provide recommendations to reduce total cost of ownership
- Lead technical proof of concepts to prove efficiencies and opportunities
- Recommend for approval any architecture engineering changes for new or change in existing platforms
- Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, both independently and as a team member.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of value drivers for Vistra business units in order to inspire and achieve innovative value creation strategies.
- Possess the relationship skills, cultural awareness, and organizational prowess required to work effectively in a large, highly-matrixed organization. Capable of delivering results through a position of influence, not authority.
- Maintain industry relationships and look to all sources available to develop the best technology strategies.
- Adept at communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences with varying skills sets.
- Communication skills are critical. Must be able to communicate with the technology providers as well as with the business leaders and outsource support staff. An ability to understand the technical details and communicate the essentials at a high level is essential.
- Tactical Infrastructure Delivery to include Projects:
- Cost business cases by other organizations based on IT Infrastructure approved standards
- Create and deliver all planning, requirements, and design phase deliverables required for PMO process (i.e. non-functional requirements, technical architecture design, dependency views, etc.)
- Meet with business and other IT resources to drive out costing details in order to provide Business Case costing and recommended solution(s)
- Drive Virtualization and On Demand Infrastructure Strategy
- Develop business cases for infrastructure initiatives (i.e. charters, initiation documents, etc.)
- Review, approve, and at times prepare nonfunctional requirements, design (based on standards and roadmaps), and drive implementation through steady state turn over
- Review, approve, and at times prepare technical requirements and functional specifications based on Vistra's technology policy
- Provides diverse complex hardware and software solutions for infrastructure design, testing, construction, and see oversee implementation
- Ensure successful applications and infrastructure integration and coexistence
- Review and provide recommendations on efficiencies or opportunities as it relates to Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity designs
- Ensure all infrastructure production documentation is met prior to production turnover
- Champion selecting, developing, and documenting infrastructure standards
- Review and approve all architecture engineering changes to existing platforms
- (i.e. Network, Linux, Windows, Storage [disk and tape], Desktop/Laptop systems, clustering technologies, patch management, active directory, desktops, laptops, client standards, etc.)
- Experienced gained through college degree programs and/or certifications in computer science or relevant field
- 5-7 yrs. exp. Providing technical architecture direction, standards in an enterprise environment5-7
- 5-7 yrs. exp with VMware vSphere5-7 years experience with enterprise security practices, procedures, policies and best practices such as COBIT, ITIL, ISO, etc.
- 8-10 yrs. exp. With three or more hardware platforms such as sun, Dell, HP IBM, Intel Hardware and various storage tools and technologies such as EMC, IBM and HP
- 8-10 yrs. exp with various operating systems and backup technologies such as Solaris, Linux, Windows, CommVault, Networker, TSM, Netbackup and multiple system applications, Email Messaging, Message Oriented Middleware, Web Servers and Directory Server Technologies (i.e. AD, LDAP, etc.)
- 8-10 yrs. exp. In analyzing, designing, developing, planning, recommending and implementing enterprise systems and solutions to include major operating system technologies (Windows, Solaris, Linux) operating systems in a large-scale environment
- 8 – 10 years experience with multiple Enterprise Systems Management and Monitoring Tools and Technologies, Enterprise scheduling and Source Code Management
- 8 – 10 years experience with enterprise security practices, procedures, policies and best practices such as COBIT, ITIL, ISO, etc
- 10+ yrs of multi-disciplined IT experience- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experienced within utilities industry
Support operational infrastructure activities such as UPS maintenance, replacement, Review IT Audits material, provide direction to outsourcer. Manage Data Centers/Co-location facilities and IT equipment in it.
