JDI Industrial Services is the industrial maintenance division of J. Davis Inc., a family-owned organization providing construction, grading, supplemental maintenance, and industrial services to South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. We are looking for both Pipe Welders and structural welders that are responsible for welding and installing, maintaining, and repairing complex piping systems in industrial environments, such as factories, power plants, refineries, and chemical plants. This role requires advanced technical knowledge, the ability to read and interpret detailed blueprints and schematics, and expertise in handling various piping materials. The Industrial Pipefitter ensures that systems run efficiently, safely, and meet regulatory standards.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Structural Welder:•Perform welding tasks on structural steel components using MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques according to engineering drawings and specifications.
•Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
•Inspect your completed welds for structural integrity and quality compliance using visual and mechanical testing methods (personal accountability, not QC).
•Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and safety gear in accordance with OSHA and company safety standards.
•Must be comfortable with working from a manlift and wearing PPE including a safety harness.
Pipe Welder:
•Install, assemble, and repair piping systems for the transport of water, steam, gases, chemicals, and other liquids in industrial settings.
•Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and system specifications to determine layout and installation requirements for industrial piping systems.
•Measure, cut, thread, and prep pipe materials to meet the specific needs of the project.
•Install valves, joints, and fittings, ensuring proper alignment, integrity, and leak-free performance.
•Perform pressure tests and use advanced diagnostic tools to identify and troubleshoot system malfunctions, such as leaks, blockages, or wear.
•Maintain and repair existing industrial piping systems, responding to emergencies and conducting scheduled inspections.
All Employees:
•Work closely with project managers, client engineers, contractors, and other tradespeople to ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects.
•Adhere to industrial safety protocols, local building codes, and environmental regulations.
•Provide technical support and guidance to junior pipefitters and other team members.
•Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas, ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational readiness.
•Document work performed, materials used, and project progress to maintain accurate records.
•Skills and Qualifications:
•Prefer 4 years of hands-on experience in industrial pipefitting, preferably in manufacturing plants, refineries, or power generation facilities.
•Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
•In-depth knowledge of pipefitting techniques, materials (steel, stainless steel, PVC, copper, etc.), and safety practices.
•Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in troubleshooting complex industrial systems.
•Expertise in using specialized pipefitting hand tools, including tubing benders, threading machines, and welding equipment.
•Understanding of relevant safety regulations, including OSHA standards and industry-specific codes.
•Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
•Ability to work in challenging conditions, including confined spaces, elevated work areas, and hazardous environments.
•Ability to mentor and train less-experienced pipefitters.
