Job Summary:
We’re seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our team in a structural steel fabrication environment. The ideal candidate will operate electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklifts with a rated lifting capacity of up to 36,000 lbs. to move materials up to 60 feet in length efficiently and safely while maintaining a high standard of workplace safety and organization. This role involves working on uneven terrain in an outdoor setting, requiring strong attention to safety and load stability.
FORKLIFT OPERATOR ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Conduct thorough vehicle inspections at the start of each shift and report defects immediately.
2. Operate forklifts safely, maintaining full control and ensuring the safety of those around you.
3. Load, unload, and transport materials with attention to balance, capacity, and stability.
4. Maintain proper fork positioning and secure loads to prevent shifting or damage.
5. Safely maneuver forklifts on uneven terrain in outdoor environments, ensuring load stability and adherence to safety protocols.
6. Perform basic equipment maintenance and regularly grease the lift to ensure optimal performance.
7. Park and secure the vehicle properly when unattended—engage brakes, lower forks, and shut off the motor.
8. Refuel safely, ensuring tanks are properly clamped and secured.
9. Keep work areas clear and ensure materials are stacked appropriately.
10. Avoid driving or parking under suspended loads.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by management to support production needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Familiarity with tools, machines, and materials used in a steel fabrication shop.
-Experience operating forklifts in a structural steel fabrication setting with loads up to 36,000 lbs. and materials up to 60 feet in length, including work on uneven terrain in outdoor environments.
-Inventory management skills to keep a running count of materials and supplies.
-Basic organizational and time management skills to ensure efficient workflow.
-Ability to perform mental math to calculate load weights, dimensions, and space utilization quickly and accurately.
-Physical stamina to repeatedly lift and move objects weighing over 100 lbs. throughout the shift.-2+ years of experience in manufacturing or steel fabrication.
-Experience operating heavy machinery in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
-Background in construction or outdoor work that required physical endurance and situational awareness.
-Familiarity with safety procedures in high-risk environments.
