Basic Function
The Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Supervisor, reporting to the Manager, HSSE is responsible for the implementation and execution of our corporate health and safety management. This role works closely with the Earthworks, Distribution, Transmission and Substation teams to provide support in all aspects of safety, occupational health, security, and environmental issues.
The HSSE Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day administration and supports the HSSE Manager and team with planning, coordinating and implementation of effective HSSE policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure the department objectives are met.
Qualifications
Education
•OHS Diploma or Degree from recognized Institution/School
•OHS certificate from recognized Institution/School
•Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation
•National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Designation
•Trades Journeyperson certification or combination of above
Experience
•A minimum of 7 years of related HSE experience in High voltage and Earthworks construction industries.
Skills
•Advanced knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety Management Systems (HSMS).
•Knowledge of various construction environments including but not limited to:
+ Overhead and underground electrical distribution
+ Electrical substations construction
+ Earthworks and civil construction
•Strong understanding of provincial OHS, WSIB, and other regulatory/legislative standards.
•Knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP) standards.
•Experience working with Canadian Electrical Utility companies is considered an asset.
•Experience with common investigation tools with experience guiding supervisors to gather evidence, determine causal factors and identify root causes to an event.
•Knowledge of Human Organisational Performance concepts.
•Knowledge of Serious Incident and Fatality Prevention programs.
•Ability to resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
•Ability to build and maintain relationships with both client and subcontractor HSSE professionals as well as operations personnel.
•Comfortable and proficient with various computer software and online HSE platforms including but not limited to:
•MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, Teams)
+ Learning Management Systems such as BISTrainer.

•Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and comfortable driving throughout the province, occasionally on forestry type trunk roads throughout the year.

Duties
•Support the HSSE Manager and team with planning, coordinating and implementation of effective HSSE policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure that the department objectives are met.
•Provide support to Project and Operation team in all aspects of Safety, Occupational Health, Security, And Environmental issues.
•Provide leadership to the company in complying with current Health, Safety, And Environmental legislation and/or regulations.
•Ensures that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety of employees, clients, and visitors on site and in the office.
•Increases health, safety, and environmental awareness at all levels within the organization.
•Educate and coach field level staff to ensure Iconic HSSE standards and expectations are met or exceeded.
•Promotes proactive reporting of all safety and environmental opportunities and/or near misses.
•Responds to employees’ safety & environmental concerns.
•Maintain HSE databases and online platforms.
•Provide a safety presence at all job sites throughout the project lifecycle.
•Work collaboratively with project teams to drive and support worker engagement in the Iconic HSMS
•Engage in conflict resolution and work with managers, staff, and clients to resolve issues.
•Attend regular tactical and strategic meetings as required.
•Conduct regular site inspections to verify HSSE compliance to IPS and client standards.
•Attend all project-relevant meetings such as project handoff, kick-offs, and review.
•Facilitate incident response, including determining A&D testing and managing work related injuries.

•This position is a mix of 25% office and 75% field work that will require field work and related travel within the province of Alberta
