Summary
Under the direction of the VP of Human Resources, the HR Business Partner is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to employee and labour relations. Respond to employee complaints; investigate and report on employee, supervisor and management concerns; coach and advise management and supervisors on employment laws and how to deal with conflict in a positive manner; understand and interpret Collective Bargaining Agreements to coach and advise Front Line Supervisors on application to workforce. Provide advice, assistance and follow up on company policies and procedures and documentation. Coordinate the resolution of specific policy related and procedural problems and inquires. Complete regular reports to Manager of Employee and Labour Relations.
Key Focus
- Work to resolve specific policy related and procedural issues and inquires by providing advice, assistance, follow-up and documentation,
- Perform specific research/investigation into operational issues, as requested
- Work closely and advise managers on all HR related issues
- Work with Health, Safety and Environment personnel on corporate policies with a particular focus on fit for duty, safety sensitive requirements and drug and alcohol policies
- Ensure complaisance with employment legislation
- Conduct regular site visits to provide an HR presence on site
- Develop a good rapport with employees
- Work with union representatives and divisional managers to resolve employee related issues
- Advice, guide and support managers and supervisors with all matters relating to employee relations
- Lead and handle complaints, disputes, grievances of all staff and report conclusions to the Manager of Employee and Labour Relations
- Prepare reports for the Manager of Employee and Labour Relations on serious matters
- Maintain Employee Relations reporting spreadsheet
- Effective case management of people related issues such as: disciplinary, performance management, grievance and absence management
- Support deployment of employee engagement initiatives such as annual employee surveys and work across respective business units on results, actions and resolutions
- Promote good employee relations across the organization,
- Arrange exit interviews where requested and compile reports of results to Manager of Employee and Labour Relations
- Developing effective relationships with the business to promote good employee relations across the organization
- Monitoring trends in employment practices and advising on appropriate proactive action
- Keep up to date records of investigations,
- Deal with Service Canada inquiries regarding terminations
- Manage employee leaves of absence as required
- Uphold record management standards in corporate HRIS systems
- Support corporate training initiatives with employees, supervisors and managers on company systems, policies and procedures
- Development and implementation of corporate employee initiatives with a focus on employee development and retention
- Post Secondary education in Human Resources designation
- Bachelors degree is considered an asset
- Minimum (5) years in a Human Resources role
- Must be proficient with all Microsoft office suite applications
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Organizational skills for high employee relations
- Knowledge of server based human capital management systems
- Resourceful, high attention to detail and professional demeanor
- Experience in unionized environment; bargaining and negotiation experience considered an asset
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
This full time position is in Fort McMurray, AB; at the satellite office.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8 hours / day
