At Detroit Disposal we specialize in fleet management services for a broad fleet of front load & roll-off trucks
Detroit Disposal is seeking a Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The right candidate will have their own tools, as well as the following:
1. Mechanical knowledge of heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment including:
- Engine Repair
- DEF Systems
- Hydraulic Systems
- Exhaust Systems
- Brake Systems
- Fuel Systems
2. The ability to Conduct tests to diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturers specifications.
3. Perform major and minor electrical and mechanical repairs to both gas and diesel vehicles.
4. Perform inspections and scheduled maintenance of vehicles as required by the DOT, vehicle/equipment manufacturers and Company standards including:
- DOT Inspections
- Oil Changes
- Spark Plug and Wire Changes
- Change Tires
5. Ensure employee safety and abide by safety policies and utilize appropriate safety equipment. Identify safety hazards and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
6. Complete appropriate work-flow reporting (both paper and electronic repair orders and inspection form) including tracking mileage/hours, time worked on each vehicle, and type of repair or maintenance.
7. Respond to Service Calls and perform off-site equipment troubleshooting and repairs. Collaborate and communicate with other mechanics and management regarding issues or repairs and the status of the fleet.
Education: High school diploma, GED, or vocational school or short-term courses in automotive repairs required.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in repair and service of diesel engine and heavy-duty trucks with knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, various vehicles and other equipment.
- Work independently, with minimal supervision in order to accomplish all responsibilities and do so without injury to oneself or others.
- Work as part of a team and promote harmonious relationships.
- Understand and follow appropriate chain of command.
- Practice good judgment at all times and know whether to take action or ask for direction when answers to a problem are not readily apparent in unclear circumstances.
- Analyze information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures in order to define the problem or objective.
- Prioritize assignments in order to complete work in a timely and efficient manner.
- Read, write, and comprehend documents written in English text to communicate information in a clear and legible manner.
- Perform effectively with frequent interruptions and/or distractions, workload changes, fluctuations, and competing demands.
- Regular and punctual attendance is essential to this position.
- Available to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time which may include climbing ladders and staircases
- Reach, bend, twist/turn, crouch, kneel, stoop, or climb
- Lift, carry, and/or stack up to 50 pounds
- Exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects
- Perceive the nature of sound, utilize near and far vision, depth perception, provide oral information
- Possess the manual dexterity to handle and work with various materials and objects
- Speak clearly in sentences in standard English on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and explain information.
- Out-door and In-door work environment with some exposure to weather extremes
- Work near moving mechanical parts
- Moderate exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, smoke, or unpleasant odors
- Moderate noise exposure
