ROLE:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment such as: Dozer, Loader, Grader, Excavator/Backhoe, Scraper, Rock Truck, Skid Steer, Packer, Mule Trax, Tracked Dump Truck.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate heavy equipment to lift, move or place equipment or materials.
- Load and unload equipment.
- Be aware of situation hazards, including blind spots, pinch points, road crossings, power lines, conflicting right-of-way traffic and proper use of tag lines.
- Operate equipment safely in various terrains such as steep slopes.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Perform routine pre-operation inspection and maintenance on equipment.
- Fill out equipment logbooks.
- Clean, lubricate and refuel equipment.
- Communicate with the equipment spotter to discuss hand signals, blind spots etc.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is considered an asset.
- Heavy Equipment Operator Certification is considered an asset.
- Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
- Junior: Minimum 3 years of experience as a Labourer preferably in pipeline construction.
- Intermediate: Minimum 3 years of experience as a Junior Heavy Equipment Operator.
- Senior: Minimum 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
- Experience working in muskeg is considered an asset.
- Experience on steep slopes is considered an asset.
- Ability to read locate sheets and possible underground and/or overhead utilities.
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures including but not limited to backing up procedures, use of spotters, signage, incident reporting, required personal protective equipment and lifting of heavy loads.
- Knowledge of equipment operation, cleaning and maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of pipeline construction industry.
- Knowledge of rigging and hoisting techniques.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations is required. Must be able to work a 6 days on 1 day off schedule with 12 hour shifts for the duration of the project.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Heavy Equipment Operator reports to the Foreperson of his/her crew. The position has no supervisory duties.
EXPECTED COMPENSATION RANGE:
$27.05 to $ 50.00/hour
