Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified Health & Safety Advisor to join our team in Prince George, BC. The Health & Safety Advisor is critical to supporting and managing health & safety program for the company. The Health & Safety Advisor will provide guidance, administration, and development in areas of safe work processes, health & safety policy implementation, legislative requirements, training requirements, and inspections. The Health & Safety Advisor will provide strong leadership in all aspects of the work in accordance with all company and industry regulatory health, safety & environmental standards & procedures. This role will be primarily based in our Prince George office and will involve travel up to 30% of the time to various projects throughout BC.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Culture:
•Promote a culture of safety through communication, engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives;
•Act as a resource and advisor for the organisation on all health and safety- related matters. Explain safety issues to engage others so they can learn, problem-solve, implement their corrective actions, and know how to prevent issue in the future;
•Be the voice of safety through senior leadership, managers, and supervisors to enforce the message that everyone is responsible for safety.
•Promote a proactive safety culture through education, engagement, continuous improvement initiatives and innovative practices. Promote a culture of “safety belongs to everyone”;
•Promote a culture of hazard identification, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement:
•Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and reduce potential risks;
•Conduct site visits to ensure safety measures are in place and protocols are being followed by all supervisors and workers on the job site;
•Monitor and enforce compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, Mines act, company policies, and standards in office and all job sites;
•Provide guidance on safe work practices and monitor adherence to company policies and procedures;
•Review or conduct annual COR (Certificate of Recognition) internal safety audits;
•Collaborate with leadership and employees to enhance workplace safety programs;
•Track safety analytics & target trends.
Training, Mentoring & Communication:
•Act as the first point-of-contact for safety inquiries and incidents. Provide advice and assistance to managers, supervisors and workers on a variety of matters including safety of workers, job procedures, property and equipment;
•Collaborate with management, project managers, site supervisors, and external agencies to ensure effective communication and implementation of safety initiatives;
•Actively engage, consult with, mentor, train, and counsel managers and supervisors to foster a positive and proactive safety mindset about compliance, hazard assessments, and safety procedures/controls development;
•Coach management to evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards and recommend strategies to control risks in the workplace;
•Develop and deliver new hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, and job-specific training as part of our Safety Program to ensure supervisors and their employees remain knowledgeable about safety protocols and practices.
•Book worker safety training using industry accepted training facilities and methods.
•Lead monthly JOHS and company wide safety meetings.
Program Management:
•Develop and continuously improve health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols tailored to the needs of the company;
•Ensure all programs meet or exceed regulatory requirements and industry best practices;
•Design and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, subcontractors, and management teams;
•Lead investigations into workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries, ensuring thorough documentation and timely corrective action;
Administration:
•Administer the implementation and maintenance of the company’s Health and Safety Management System;
•Maintain all training logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements, and all safety related activities;
•Maintain filing system regarding worker training and safety;
•Manage, review, assess and / or complete job hazard analysis (JHA’s) with site leadership and ensure that they are communicated, posted and filed;
•Prepare detailed reports and presentations on safety performance, trends, and improvement initiatives for senior management;
•Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
Qualifications
•Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent experience and/or experience;
COR Auditor Certification - Large.*
Desirable
•Construction Safety Officer Certification (CSO);
•Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP);.
Work Experience
•A minimum of 3-5 years in an occupational health and safety function and a demonstrated working knowledge of WorkSafe BC, OHS and CSA regulations;
•Experience with WCB claims management and Return to Work program management which includes a thorough understanding of and previous experience with related legislation (i.e. ESA, Human Rights, Privacy, etc.)
•Experience working within the Mines act, an asset.

•Timely and sound decision-making skills;
•Strong computer skills and experience, M/S Office, and safety management information systems experience and aptitude essential;
•Travel requirements: 30%
